It's called being proud of success and accomplishment from hard work.
I'm sure you can feel me on that, right?

Now, lemme address a FEW things. One - you said this forum should be about sharing tips and tricks, right? Well...I'm new to the s950, and your gear list shows me youve had it for a while---care to share some tips and tricks with me? I've never used one, and cant wait.

And as for how you making beats has to do with anything...well, no offense, I see you coming to this forum to ASK for help, and to comment on the ideas and beats of others, but I havent seen you offer a whole lot of help to others here, nor show your skill/style in beatmaking. You cant keep taking from the forum and not give to it as well---its supposed to be a community of give and take.

So, please (and Im being serious and humble right now, not being sarcastic)---please offer a complete newbie on the s950 some tricks and tips to help me get started. I already have the s900 and s950 manual and am reading them today, but any hands on tricks would be appreciated.

I spend much more time making beats then I do talking about them, or
the gear, Im just glad I have what I wanted, finally, after tons of bullsh*t. I dont claim to be the best, I know I can always improve, but in this day and age of 16 and 24 bit samplers, 12 bit is one of those things that you realize is your style the hard way. I got tired of having to process my sounds on the XL to get them to sound the way I wanted them to sound in my head....and finally woke up one day and realized I was trying to make an XL sound like a 60.

Feel me?

...my s950 sits in the closet. I let my Bul hold My EPS 16 for like 8 months. I've been Bangin strictly on the MPC 3k for a year now before that I was a EPS 16+ dude.I moved and haven't had a chance to set my gear like a pro.Plus being in and out of work is RUFF. I've been in to beats for like 5 years now, more heavily now that ever. But I'm the wrong dude to ask about the s950 as far as super techincal stuff cuz I don't mess with it much. By all these 12 bit post about how much better the MPC 60 is this and the Sp is that is gay,Period!! It 's Hard sell HOT Tracks with ANY piece of gear. Try selling a 12 bit that sounds like it was done in 94 track in this now, know what I mean! 12 bit samplers are cool for bass and Drums but other than that ,2 many people are living in the past tryin to sound like 94,Why it's 2005,try to sound like 2015! I mean I'm a BIG Pete Rock and all but what has he done over the last 7 or years with his career 12 bit or not?? I ain't to be 2 much like him anyway business wise. As far advice goes Check all the Artcle posted and etc.

goldenechos wrote:You could spend $400 on a kick ass stereo DI box or Compressor (with mad gain) and do plenty good. Some of those Tube DI boxes have close to 30db of gain, that is PLENTY enough to get those drums LOUD and FAT; nice for beefin up a signal.

You could use it on other gear as well; bass guitar always sounds good through a nice tube DI box.

T

Any Pre Amp/DI's that would make a real difference would cost more than $400 per channel.
Do the math on 8-outs + 2 mono outs.
As Drum has tried to explain you will understand how low the 60 output is if you have other machines to compare it to.
The 3000, 2000, SP, 4000 etc all have way more output.
The 60 maxed volume is about 11:00 on the xl and around 1:00 on the SP, etc.
That's a lot to be loosing in normal operation.

If you want to sound like 1994, buy a MPC 3000 ;)

Lord Taranga's been on this forum longer than you by a year, and he never flooded the place with a million questions, so don't get all hurt when he calls you out, there is no shame in asking questions, but don't try and play yourself off like you know better than us when we seen you when you didn't know shyt.

Like I said, what you are experiencing is very clearly jealousy, you start a thread bagging 12 bit machines, having a 950 you don't mess with, acting like you can only make old shyt with old gear, well the 3k is 11 years old bro, so you are lookin really eggish right now.

12 bit samplers sound good, you can get the vibe from old hip hop beats and you can do new shyt, and we like them, you are jealous because we have done what you couldn't, rock more than one sampler at a time. But we've all been in your shoes, you just got to know that you got a long way to go and stay on the humble, cuz that's how we learn too.

(Sigh, here we go!) Jealous???.... How?? I have an S950 (12 bit Sampler), But SO WHAT!!???! I don't talk about it like its a real human man, c'mon!! It's a dated piece of gear that's nice not but very much irrelavant. Popularized by Producers who are now irelavant!! Why Knock a ni66a who uses a MPC 4000 and a Korg Trition? Does it make me better just cuz I got a s950??

If the track is hot it's hot period..... Nobody really Cares. These "I love 12 bit" threads are homo, man Really! Far as questions go usually I'm just, Brainstorming, but if know my post you would know all the Articles I have posted about stuff ni66as wouldn't have known about nor would have ever found online.

As far as lord whatever dude goes....screw'em,ever heard of him nor will I ever dirty my keyboard and type his name...period, I ain't with the homo board bangin, If he wanted see me on beats, show me a check stub or a Production Credit on a major on a indie track then, MAYBE I'll consider shutting up, or you what better yet catch me at the Beat society (I 'll be doing it soon!) other than that it can eat a big fat dik....... As long as it aint mine!! No rebuttal, I'm ignoring it.
Elmacaco, I'm suprized you of all people miss the point. If you flip 12 bit tracks fine. If you got 15 12 bit samplers blazin thru the daisy change thats cool too!! But,Don't dis ni55az who don't get down with 12 bit samplers or bang on 4000's and 2000's on some ol' elitist sh*t!!
They make 90% of the (hot)Producers out here!![/b]

By elmacaco Thu Jun 09, 2005 9:16 pm
Well man, you're the one making a tribute thread to it ;)

if you think it's gay then don;t participate, you're talking to heads that have been with this stuff for a long time, who have seen the promise of the new technology and seen it not meet the promise. Some of the 4000 cats are having their sequences recalled without all the note repeat stuff complete, sorry but if you're giving me new features dont take away the old ones or **** them up.

I aint dissing the 4k users, of all the current MPC's I like it the best (XL, 1k 4k) because it has the stuff I would need like 4 midi outs and footswitch ins and most importantly, DEDICATED MENU BUTTONS!!! not quite as well organizes as the 60, but they at least looked back to get it right.

FOr you, what the listener hears is the most important thing, the finished product, but for me getting there is more than half the fun. Once I'm done with a track, I really just want to go make another one, not sit around jerkin off cuz people think it's hot, I keep thinking how I can make the next one better. For people who make tracks, the tools they use do become very important, and the sound of the gear is just as important and inspiring than anything else.

But you're talking to people who have explored this gear, not those who just own it and leave it in the closet after not having the patience to get into it. Man, if you think the 950 is hard to get into, don;t even mess with the 4k!

Seriously, you are commenting on 12 bit like you know about it, but you don't, and it's obvious, all your experience with 12 bit is listening to old hip hop tracks, which in no way show the full range of what 12 bit can do.

I'm with Jaem, dont open your trap if you don;t know what you are talking about. I think you really are jealous, because the hype of the 3000 is really dying now that it has better competition than the XL was. The 1000 and the 4000 give it more of a challenge and people are talking more about the 60 now because of the 12 bit and the 3000 is getting less coverage, so you feel kinda left out. All that shyt is bullshyt anyway, the way hip hop lives on hype is really sickening, like OH NO< someone has the newer sneakers than you, better go get that $200 to update.

Please.

Back when, companies offered higher overheads to they're R&D teams to develope new equipment, so a lota gear back in the 80's and prior, will built without cost in mind.

Companies that put out samplers now, have to keep cost in mind. They also have a lot more competition to compete with. This means, instead of analyzing 5-8 yrs of market data to see what improvements should really be made for the next product, they're just rushing out the same bullsh*t repackaged with some new gimmics to meet consumer needs. Once again, blame it on CONSUMERS for not knowing any better. They only know what they're told.. blame the INDUSTRY for that.

You are Really Missing the point. Why I don't know??? Let explain it like this I might be using a computer program in a few years, Forget the MPC line all together!!! IF the Track is hot then it's Hot What does it matter???? I'm not married to the MPC to the point I'm lost with out it. I might come to the day when I make track on MPC and then have real musician over dub it change the key, etc. To give you an example NO ID the dude who taught kanye how to make beats, stop using the 3k and now use logic and some other Programs...smart move!!! All his beats are stored on this labtop and problably back to hard drive! He can give the Beat CD to Client anytime! The MPC 3000 or 60 or 2000 is NOT Prestige piece to me. It's not a Diamond Necklace or a Porshe. IT's A MEANS TO AN END!!!!!!!

NO ID used an SP-1200 for Commons first 2 LP's. Arguably, those were his 2 best LP's, go figure that one out!

anyone can talk about gear.

lets hear your use of it, and tips and tricks that YOU found out or came up with that you can share.

By elmacaco Fri Jun 10, 2005 12:36 am
Philly, you are being wowed by the hype, many of us have been through all this, you have dollar signs in your eyes and you swallowed the progress hype hook line and sinker. You think you're telling us anything new? Most of the new hip hop producers are the dumbest motherjumpers you'll ever meet. just plain dumb as rocks, you know what they have in their gear tyhat makes 'their sound' an engineer, yeah that's right,m they slap a beat together and the engineer gets it sounding right, and then, they have some ghost producers where they don;t even make the beats anymore, just pick the ones they want to steal.

If all you care about is your paycheck and your image, the you are gonna want a machine that you just push a button and a 'hot beat (tm)' pops out. if you are a musician, and not a crackdealer turned pop culture hustler, you choose your weapons carefully. I am actually surprised that you are as dumb as you look philly, you posted a lot of good links that seemed like you had a bit more upstairs that you apparently do. We get your point better than you do, that's why we understand that it is no revelation. So OK, it is a means to an end. Then what? What is your end? What is your artistic vision? WHat helps you achive the music you want to make? What music do you want to make? or do you just want to make money making beats? Nothing wrong with that, but if you're gonna be shallow, don't try and tell others there is nothing in the depths just because you haven't been there.
