Converting .WAV samples to .SND samples

What is the best conversion program to convert .WAVs to .SND samples so my MPC can read them. If there is such a thing. Currently I just take my wave into SoundForge and compress it or do whatever I need to do to it and then sample it into my MPC the old fasion way. It would make things a little easier if I had a program that could turn those .WAV files into .SND file that I could save on a disk and load into my MPC.

I assume you're using a 60 or a 3000. 2kxls and beyond all support wavs natively, as do the S5/6k and later rackmounts.

As far as translating to snd format sounds, Mike Goins offers a free program on www.mpc2000xl.com called WavSnd. Check it out.

I noticed the MPC Editor program, has anyone ever used this program and if so does it alter your samples at all? I did see in the manual that it works on the 60 as well.

Only on 60's with 3.10 OS. which can import 3000 files (the MPC converts them, and it takes a while, but then you resave the program fro the MPC and your straight.)

Two things one "F" the Snd. format, why limit yourself. WAV. files are basically universal. and like the last guy said if you're using a 2000 or newer MPC your MPC can read, save and create wav. files. Eliminating that old fashion resampling back into your MPC. Now if you've tried to import wav. files into your MPC and got disk errors, it's because your wavs weren't 16 bit wavs. As for the MPC editor it should be a law not to have one. It makes programing and archiving your program contents/samples too easy. instead of loading up the MPC and programing the pads step by step the MPC editor let's you do it right there on the screen and save all your program settings. Parameters and all. And it works on MPC (3000, 2000, and the 2000XL). Cop it!

I use all three...

So if you ARE using SND you are not limiting yourself, SND's do load up just a touch faster than WAV's though.

Thanks guys, I think I'll check out Cool Edit Pro and MPC Editor, when I get my OS 3.10 from Roger Linn 's Site. Just to reiterate, I have a 60 mkI, therefore it does not read .wav files. That is why I posted in the MPC3000, MPC60 forum. Thanks again for all of the replies.

OK, I downloaded MPC Editor and Awave. I can't use MPC Editor until I get the 3.10 upgrade, but can I use Awave. The reason I ask is because my MPC would read the files, but when I tried to load them it said they were not there. Here is a step by step of what I did.

1) Formatted a disk on my MPC
2) pulled up Awave and opened my .wav file
3) saved my .wav file as a .snd file for MPC 60, 3000, 2000, etc
4) put disk in computer and copied file to drive A:
5) put disk in MPC and attempted to load file.

??did I miss something in there?

Your PC cannot read MPC format.

The 60 was made a long time ago and not with the intention of transferring files with PC's the way you just tried so most likely you will have problems.

Why would it even write the file to disk if that is the case. The MPC uses a DOS based OS. Windows should be able to read DOS. If there was an interface problem between the MPC formatted disk and the PC then the disk would not even open let alone allow files to be saved to it. Also the MPC acknowledges the files are there until you hit load file. The filename shows up in the directory it just won't load for some reason.

"MPC 3000" (member) explained it a while back. It may be explained at midicase.com too. Something about having Windows 98 or lower when formatting disks to FAT 32 so the 60 can read them?
