punkdISCO- I see where you're coming from with your response about Roland. I suppose anything is possible, though there's alot of different factors involved that would need to be considered by Roland before they could go back to analog (and the extent of that discussion may take away from the original purpose of this thread, so I wouldn't want to irritate anyone looking for bass info).

So, moving back to the subject of bass... that Revolution clone looks pretty cool. I saved the link and I'll look into it more later on. Also, there's a DIY kit which I've been looking into. Its called the x0xb0x... http://www.ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/.

btw... that Colin Fraser MIDI mod is the best I've seen yet. Thanks for sharing. 8)

Mmm drool, cool analogue stuff there

but returning to the Juno-D

1) somebody suggested the Juno-D is a virtual analog, just so no-ones confused, it's not VA, it's a ROMpler through and through.

2) as it happens, and yer not gonna like this folks, by Roland's own naming conventions they have every right to call it a Juno. Apparently the "Juno" name was adopted to refer to "budget line" instruments. The Juno 6 being the first. Presumably 6 and the Juno's that followed were "budget" in comparison to the Jupiters. They finally revived the name for this new ROMpler. So "Juno" in Roland speak means cheap and simple even tho to the rest of the world it means "classic analogue synth heritage".

All of which may be true but it's still a cheap marketing ploy in my book.

"About 303 mods, can he make some more tricks?"

I dont think Colin does mods for the public. For my mods I used:

http://www.oakleysound.co.uk/

This guy, Tony, is very nice to deal with and is regarded as being one of the top Synth Techs in the UK.

He did the following very simple mods on my 303:

- Better Bass (does not drop off so much when you increase the resonance)
- Env pot increased range
- Freq pot increased range

These mods cost about £25 but it was a few years back.

see you,

see you,

A friend of mine pointed me to Oakley Sound a while back, telling me about the 3031 (303 clone), but I'm thinking about building the Filtrex filter instead, since I gotta start somewhere and that's the easist DIY kit up there.

BTW... another friend of mine is having the x0xb0x built for him by someone, and he told me that the instructions aren't too good. Given that I need to learn alot more before I even think about building an x0xb0x, I'm gonna wait until the instructions are revised and I get through a few semesters of electronic engineering.
