well when Akai Unprofessional designed the MPC4000,
and chose all the parts and components that would be assembled to make it,
this would all be done (one hopes, as per normal professional manufacturing practise) by specifying tolerances and MTBFs ("mean time between failure")
and so forth.
So they may have used a screen which is rated for a continuous use of 200 years, in which case we need hardly worry.
Or maybe its only 10 years.
Maybe powering up and down the liquid crystals stresses it out and each switch reduces the life by 20 minutes
The thing has a cooling fan - they'll have worked out the ambient temperature range it will be stable at and so forth. We hope.
People's idle specualtions and opinions don't really count for sh*t,
it just depends on the design specs.
(Let's hope they were something more rigorous than the software test specs for some of those howlingly buggy OS updates........)
