Never turning off your 4000

I completely forgot. At AMIC we had a High Voltage room, units could be plugged in and it was fed a high current, as though the unit was on for very long periods even though it had only been a short time. I don't know of any of the specs (Voltage, etc.) because that was handled by the service technicians.

the 4000 screen and the 2000 screen have differnt specs. And I have yet to read about a 4k with black lines in the screen. As a matter of fact the only time I have heard of problems with the screen is the cable not beinging slightly out of place.

My bad yall, i should've been more clear in this area. When i was referring to my homies who have the multiple MPC's with burned out screens in their studios, i was talking about the MPC 2000 & 2000XL models....not the 4000.

both of those talk about the same thing but if you had read further in the last post in the second thread you have linked in your post you would have found this

wel Te quote was correct untill you posted those threads but the really didnt qualify as a mpc4k defect. That was human error

I left my mp on lastnight,about 5am it started lightning,went to the lab and my mp was off!!! pushed the power but off & on, and it did'nt comeback on.I waited for about 10 minutes tried it again and it came back on....(thank God) that was a moment.I immediatly backed up everything to cd.so leave it on at your own risk,or at least keep up with the weather when leaving on equipment,for now on after tracking I'm saving and cutting off.

I understand how long it's been since somebody has last posted here, but I see it as a very important subject to come across. I'm good friends with Forat (who is a genius when it comes to anything about drum machines = especially Mpc's ect.) Look em ^ & you'll see what I mean. Anyways - when I purchased my 4k I asked him what his thoughts were on this subject and he told me it's not good to leave it on all the time. He said use it & when your done save your shit & turn it off. When your ready to hop back on it...turn it on. It's not like a computer where for the most part it's better to leave it on --unless for obvious reasons like lightning ect. I also asked him if buying a serge unit just for the Mpc was necessary or not & he told me it wasn't. But, nowadays serge protectors are cheap and cover usually up to $50,000 worth if shit gets ruined while plugged into it. So getting one for the Mpc wouldn't hurt anything.

Helpful Hint:
If you've owned your serge protectors for a while & you can't remember when you actually purchased em...it's probably time to get a new one(s). Cause the warranty's don't last forever

Maybe powering up and down the liquid crystals stresses it out and each switch reduces the life by 20 minutes

The thing has a cooling fan - they'll have worked out the ambient temperature range it will be stable at and so forth. We hope.

People's idle specualtions and opinions don't really count for sh*t,
it just depends on the design specs.

(Let's hope they were something more rigorous than the software test specs for some of those howlingly buggy OS updates........)

True, but also...
They will definately have had multiple suppliers from which they source their components, so although the ultimate spec of the end machine is the same, there will be "good" and "bad" ones due to the different combinations of components. (same spec different quality).
To leave the thing on or off? - depends on the most likely failure mode of the components.
