this was my theory too, thats the way the s950 works... i asked a while ago if somone with an older OS than 3.* could try it out and see if it works, no reply from anyone willing to test this out for us... anyone WITHOUT OS3.* willing to try this out??? id love to know if you can cutoff notes ala without MONO MODE from the 3.10 OS... just want to see if you can get samples to cut eachother of when assigned to the same NUMBERED INDIVIDUAL OUTPUT!!!! on the S950, this ONLY WORKS WITH THE NUMBERED INDIVIDUAL OUTPUTS, NOT THE RIGHT AND LEFT OUTPUTS or the MIX OUT!!! im assuming/hoping that it is the same on the MPC60 OS version 2.*...

PLEASE SOMEONE WITH THE OLDER OS VERSION TRY THIS OUT AND REPORT BACK TO US IF IT WORKS OR NOT...

6.6 assigning the 8 assignable outputs

there are 8 assignable mix outputs on the rear panel.Each may be assigned to output a single drum or any combination of the 32 drums .
these are not individual voice outputs ....

nah it definitely doesn't.....you have to assign a note to cut off. I believe in the previous OS you could only cutoff a single note where as in OS 3.10 you can cut off 2 notes simultaneously. Although it might be a pain in the ass to assign each note it comes in very handy and really does let you be that much more creative.

I can see how someone would like to just sample to a pad and get on with it, so prefering 2.12 isn't so bad, but even as a sequencer, controlling external things, having local off, I mean, lots of basic shyt was added in 3.10, so I can't see using the old OS happily for very long.

No local is why cats would opt to not sample in the 60 when using it as a sequencer for other samplers.

2.xx just seems more slapped together and less thought out than 3000, I'm glad roger thought to port the 3000 OS to the 60, it really made the machine mature well and is really what keeps it viable today.

^It's already been gone over. Otari's rarely need maintaince. Cheaper "pro-sumer" reels and MCI machines are the type that need maintainace almost every other week! As for tape, yep, your looking at about $80-135 per reel.

Damn, how long is that in duration? 24 tracks damn...

Wouldn't it be possible to use it for mixing down on an analog console and clearing the reel after its mixed down to 2 tracks? So you can use one reel over and over untill its "dead"?

Are you good with tape machines in general? I'd be interested in a saturation machine for my recordings. 2 or 4 track. Anything thats affordable?

these things are plentiful in ebay, just do a search for reel to reel and see for yourself!

lots of people are getting into tape now since the cost of the machines has gone down considerably. Some machines that would cost you 20 g's used 5 years ago are going for $2000. But maintenence and tape is where it can get expensive. A decent prosumer machine would be a good addition to any home studio, or anyone who just wants to campare analog to digital for real without just reciting opinions they've heard or read.
