Step Editing......

How is this function useful?????? When would I use it????????

One example would be:
If you are trying to do a beat and you just can't get the pad to hit at the moment you want, even with quantize off. You can step edit and move the pad event a few ticks in the direction/wpot you want it to be.

A beat is 96 ticks
A bar is 4 beats.

If you make a beat in say 4/4 you are nowhere near using the maximum amount of ticks in 1 bar. A tick can be easiest described as a time slot to place your pad hits in.

Its also used to insert control change messages, program changes, bank changes, mid-sequence tempo changes; fine tuning mix automations, velocity, attack, decay, etc., etc.

If I’ve played a piano sequence, for example, and I find its perfect aside from one off note… Instead of re-recording the sequence, I’d use step edit to delete the stale note.

Many uses…

Some people write entire tunes in step edit. I've done it. I first write a song in my head and then I know where and when every note should occur. I go to step edit, insert notes at the appropriate times and I am done. Plays back exactly what I imagined it to be.

the step editor allows you to add alot of depth to your sequences, and get some pretty good automation going on external midi gear. i used to take out notes here and there and do drop outs, but now i just use mixer automation for all that bussiness.

Corny, haha, but whatever works for you big dog. I used to watch that when I was little btw. My 2 favorites were the 2 ninjas, good and bad. I guess I'm corny too, eheh..

i never used this function. i always do things the hard way. practice makes perfect.

I use it every once in a while, usually to fix velocities and unwanted layered hits.
It helps tighten up my progamming, and also changes up patterns by adding and subtracting hits (there is some of that Math I didn't think I'd use in later life).
