What do you do while waiting for time stretch to complete?

WindowsXP has been problem free for me for over 3 years now . Get with the times, Windows2000 is a thing of the past. And if you're going to use a PC at all in your process, then you could have issues with all these thing you mentioned anyway, not just timestretching. I had my 2000xl for 2 years before I got a PC to connect it to. I only had the MPC timestretch available, and I used it all the time. I can get it the right length EVERY TIME, and I don't even need a f@cking calculator for basic math, but the wierd "adjust" setting that doesn't tell you what its adjusting or how much, makes a HUGE difference in the sound and it's all trial and error. I use a PC to sample and edit (and add loop points to) all my samples and I NEVER had my PC crash, NEVER had any problems with the transfer and I NEVER had to wait more than 30 seconds for ANY editing process. I love my 2000xl, more than any other piece of gear I have ever used, I wouldn't even buy a 4000 if I could afford it. But the timestretch option on the MPC is VERY time-consuming and not user friendly. So stop trying to say different. We all know its a pain in the @ss, your just tryin to say the MPC is better than a PC for making music, and we all (or most, at least) agree with that. Except certain things, and timestretching is one of 'em.

BTW, I did RTFP, and I'll BRB with more internet acronyms, which are, IMHO, making me ROTFL.

Timestretch makes a sample longer or shorter without affectin the pitch (no chipmunks or Lurch type effects)

But if you really want good time compression/expansion and pitch-shifting cop one of them old school Eventide joints. A little pricy, but that's the real sh*t.....software is cool, too many artifacts for me.

Try the low Q. timestrech first. When it sounds good move to higher Q.
Normally I would suggest using the PC... this is just for people that want to keep their stuff inside the MP.
side note: I do not agree that the lo and the hi Q sounds the same

i used time stretch a bunch of times, and it really dont take that long..about 2 min tops depending on he sample

I don't understand what's so funny about this. I've run XP (home and Pro) on 3 different PCs over the last 3 years and have had only one occasion where the PC actually crashed and I had to reboot it. I don't work for Microsoft so I wouldn't lie about this. I guess maybe I just know how to maintain my PC better than some who would prefer to blame thier OS than thier bad System Admin skills

Remember who you are hangin out with here. Most of us are musicians, not system admins. We probably don't want to be system admins, and likely would not admit to being one anyway.

I do not think that anyone is disputing the fact that a "maintained Windows System" runs OK. The problem is that I'd much rather be making music than "maintaining" a system. My suggestion is that it would not be worth the time to maintain a windows system just for some timestretching.
