well i had 2 computers fry because of this, and good thing they were both under warranty, got them replaced.
iim assuming that the same thing can happen to an mpc.
be safe, go to a local electronic store and by a surge protector that will guarantee thigns liek that wont happen. i have everything only hooked up to a surge protector now.
In the manual, it recommends that you unplug the unit when there's a thunderstorm. As far as surge protectors are concerned, I would personally recommend unplugging the surge protector as well. I'm a bit skeptical about comsumer grade surge protectors, even though some of them guarantee any damage up to $10,000 or so. In my opinion, your best bet would be to buy a rackmountable Furman Power Conditioner... preferably the higher end models that display the line voltage. Whenever you're not running your gear, or in the case of a storm, just turn the switch off and you'll be safe. The voltage fluctuations here in New York give me enough of a reason not to settle for anything less than a Furman. I can't take chances with anything else when it comes to protecting my gear.
yeah, the surge protector i use, will guarantee up to 15,000, so im not concerned.
funny thing, i lost two HPs due to this, but the PC i use for the intermet, is about 5 years old now, and been through many poweroutages. it is still only plugged into and only into a powerbar with no surge protection, and it is still goign without any problems... hmm...
