On the 4000:
Thanks for posting that article... That's the first time I've seen the article... But I remember when that interview took place... That was a little while ago.... The studio kit I currently use is just the........... MPC 4000... That machine is off the hinges... For those who had this machine & was turned off by technical problems you were having, they fixed all the bugs.. This machine does it all.... Trust me... I'll give you a brief rundown real quick.....
1. Sample time is expandable to 512MB which is just over an hour.... sampling time..
2. For those who like to filter loops, you can either filter out all the highs or vica versa or filter out all the bass..
3. You might as well get rid of all them 3.5 disk, it has a 60 to 80 gig build in hard drive meaning you can save everything in the machine itself... or back up your work on to a CD which honestly holds up to a couple of 100 or about just about a thousand of thoses 3.5 disks on one CD.
4. The biggest is question is SOUND QUALITY..... Well you can sample at damn near any rate you would want from 8 bit (SP1200 quality) to 24 bit... (CD quality)***
5. Portability... It's a little bit bigger than the MPC 3000 but if you travel alot it's real handy... You can hook up your turntable directly to the back of this machine and work from there... via hotel room, car, bathroom, etc... as long as you can find a plug outlet you can work... & a nice set of headphones..
6. And for those who like to sample from CD... You can put a CD in the CD drive and sample directly from CD into the MPC 4000.... I'm a vinyl person myself... but once in a solar esclipse I put songs of samples I wanna work on.. onto a CD when I'm traveling so I don't have to lug all them records with me....
6. Current producers using the 4000 include myself, Large Professor, Buckwild, Just Blaze, and shit even my ***** Freddie Foxxx... I admit took me awhile & some rehabilitation to leave the SP1200 alone, but it was worth the switch... Don't get it twisted I occassional go back to the SP1200 & Akai S950 but it just to revamp alot things I can bring to life better with the MPC 4000..
