Onboard sounds

Excuse me for my extreme newb ignorance, but does the MPC 4000 actually have onboard sounds other than drums, such as synths, strings, etc? I've been hearing alot of great things about this machine, but already own a Triton and a Motif, so I wasn't sure if this would be worth my while.

If so, does anyone know where I can hear some audio demos or songs created solely using the onboard sounds? Preferrably Hip Hop if you know of any.

Yeah, I know those are good machines, but I'm always looking to expand my studio. Basically, I'm looking for some of the sounds Lil Jon uses, and from my understanding, he uses an MPC 4000. So my real question was....I know the MPC is a drum machine, but does it have instrument sounds as well?

No, the mpc 4000(or any MPC for that matter) dose not have any on board sound, everything has to be sampled in order to play on the mpc

the 4k doesnt' come with any sounds loaded, but you can buy plenty of sample CD"s or whoever you buy it from if you get it used will include sounds. Like for me, I always have my fav instruments that I like to use in my beats always load up when I turn it on.

Lil John uses nothing but the 808 drum kits. He's a fiend for that.

Ahh, so can I assume he must be using a Triton for that? Or are there sample kits for the MPC that contain the 808 kit?

The MPC3000 that little Jon uses is a SAMPLER. WHICH MEANS IT SAMPLES STUFF.

Yes I was being serious. Afterall, this is the NEWBIE forum.

I got the part about it sampling. But you still didn't answer my question. All I wanted to know was where the dude gets his sounds. I have a hard time believin' that a big time producer is sampling his drum beats from Sample CD's you can buy for $20 at mpc-samples.com. Ya feelin' me?

So I'll continue to believe he uses a Triton for his instruments, until someone can tell me otherwise. But thank you to the rest of you that helped explain exactly what the MPC does.

First off, Lil John (as already mentioned) rides 808 drum samples' dick... in other words, you want your drums to sound like a Lil' John song, then just download some 808 drum samples. They are everywhere and not hard to find.

Secondly... I think you're crazy if you're really trying to get a Lil' John drum sound - I can't stand that shizz... but if that's what you feel, then go for it.
