If i convert a sample on the XL to a 12-bit sound, am I effectively getting the same sound you would get from the mpc60?

nope, the MPC is just going to replace the last 4bits to 0000. the analog/digital convertors are not the same in both machines, therefore you get an other sound... PS: converting to 12bit or 8bit is not going to save memory, the last bits are just zero's

well, its not because it doesnt sound like a 60, you cant use it. i use it alot on drums, its not the famous 12bit sound, but its something else and if you like it, you like it! the samplefreq is verry nice. with this conversion you van save some memory wich is handy if you work on floppy's. just experiment with it, but be aware of the slow convert-time! if u experiment, i suggest you try small sounds (MAX100kb), so you can hear what it does without waiting a verry long time...

have fun with it, its a nice feature!
