how come....

how come when im laying down a midi track on the 3K, i cant just change the track to midi and record.

for instance ill have to leave the track set to drum, record the midi info (so as im playing, my pads are playing to) then if i erase that, change the track to midi, and record, it work like it seems it should, any thoughts?

OK, are you recording a midi track for an external unit with the pads or with a controller? I understand what you are talking about, but I'm not sure what exactly you don't get about it.

What up Mac, Ok, I'm playing the my master Keyboard into the MPC, just notes, I'm not trying to play my internal sounds.

But what happens is, if I set my MPC track to MIDI, nothing gets recorded. If I leave it on DRUM, my notes (plus the internal sounds) get recorded and played.

Now, after I've done this on a track, if I switch that same track to MIDI, all of a sudden, it works, meaning, my midi notes get recorded (and the internal sounds dont play).

So what I've been doing is just recording some junk on a track, erase it real quick, then switch it to MIDI, then record what I really want without the internal sounds getting in the way. Its weird, but thats the only way it works.

Not as complicated as it sounds when typed.

Set soft thru to On in the Midi>2 field.

i dont know if im asking the same question but it seems to be similar...
lets say im recording 3 tracks...
track one is sampled kicks from 3000- drum field set to drums
track two is samples from asr rack played from triton-drum field on 3000 set to midi
track 3 hi hats from motif rack now i want to play my hi hats on 3000 but i keep getting sounds from track one sampled kicks if i set drum field to drum/and if i set it to midi i have to play hi hats from trition...ive fvcked with all the midi soft /on through shit is driving me crazy anyone know answer... thanks

The answer is in the FAQ I think, but you set the track to Drum, and in the midi 2 page set local to off, then record your part, when it loops you'll hear the internal 3000 sounds as well until you stop and set the track from drum to midi. That's just how it is, one of the few inelegant things on the 3000, but very easy to get used to once you get it. It's what you got to do if you want to use the pads for both internal and external.
