You can record each track seperately, its just handier to have the output board. And if you're like me and just use a 2 channel recorder, then it's pretty necessary for tweaking sounds on a mixer before they get recorded.
Someone other peeps might laborate on that but if you're multitracking, its just more convenient and makes things faster.

i use the 8 outs everytime i track. much quicker when you need to get each sound to a separate track.....

its a question of time, money and patience!

you got a lot of time to bounce each track seperatly? then u dunn need the 8outs.

you got no money? then you might not be able to buy the 8 outs.

you got patience? then u also dunn need the 8 outs (llokup Q 1)

but overall, if you wanna go serious with programming youll realize sooner or later that the 8 outs are some kind of a must.

cheers

Honeycut summed it up nicely. If you got protools, the 8 outs wouldn't be totally necessary, it'd be more of a luxury.
Without the output board, you can record one track/sound at a time to PT. Then you can then EQ and furthur edit each individual track to get a good mix.
The 8 outs is valuable to someone like me because I don't record to a multitracker which lets me edit each individual track after I record it. I record to a CD recorder which recieves a stereo signal (L and R channels) from my mackie board. So to have the 8 outs means I can EQ and pan individual sounds on the mixer before it gets recorded.

I don't have the output board. I've had my XL for over a year and have been recording my stuff for a couple months. So even in my case, you can manage without it (but the proof is in the pudding I guess! ). I'm looking at buying it now, so it should be good. But if I were you, getting protools and all, I'd save the money and maybe look at getting it down the track.

Peace

i think the point is that for recording your stuff just for demos you don't really need the 8 outs.

if i bounce out a track for lets say some rapper that wants to spit over it, i do the ruff mix on the mpc. thats enuff for that.

but when somebody gets serious with making a track out of a beat, i do bounce my seperate instruments via the 8 outs. that saves a lot of time (think of having about 20 instruments on the mpc and having to bounce em out one by one [max. 2 mono at a time] via the stereo mix out).

but in general, I'd say the 8 out is one of the best investments you could make to your mpc. sometimes u find out the pros of any hard-and software only by using it. that's the best way to see if it works out for you...but who am I telling this on this board? yall know!

my advice: if you got some money to spend-buy it. someday you'll want to use it.

cheers

Just remember, if you buy the 8 outs and are tracking into Pro Tools (or anything else on your PC), then you'll also need a soundcard with 8 ins, and they run about $200 on thier own.

I think it gets yhe job done so much faster .. still I dont use the 8outs beacuse I never run the outputs directly into my recording sytem
I allways run then into other devices first.

u can tweak the volumes in the mpc ..

or if you still want to mix them on a your recording system you can allways run them out seperatly ...

goodluck..

yeah I came up with an mixing tip for those who dont got the 8outs ...
here goes ...

use the stereo out and pan one sample Left and the other sample right on the stereo out .. then you get at least two track speratly at the same time!

you´ll have to do this in the mixer section on the mpc and dont forget to mute the other samples ! so they wont leak out ...

just an thought

but if you do it one by one, dont you have to make sure they are all on time? dont you gotta somehow sync the mpc and computer so everything is on time?

Yessireebob, you sure do. But remember, if you (for some reason) want your stuff professionally mixed or mastered, they usually like to have all the tracks saved as seperate .WAVs as well as a complete beat, so you should be sync-ing anyway if that's the route you wanna go.

you'll need midi for that.

oh...yea i thought so.

txpimp what kind of interface do you have?

By RonDu Thu Aug 25, 2005 5:05 pm
It's not a necessity but it is more convenient and time efficient. You can do just a good job recording each sound to a track seperately. It's just time consuming, that's all. The 8's make it easier
