Kanye West 2nd Ablum thoughts

Kayne=POP Not hip hop, r&b or whatever.

POP, same catagory as Britney Spears.

Now about him being a good producer, I dunno. The only track he produced that I ever actually listened to is on the Dilated Peoples album, and that beat knocks, for real. But if what cats is saying is true, and he don't do anyting to the samples, and just composes them, that ain't a producer, it's a re-mixer. Would you call someone that make collages an artist? Nope.

BTW, I used to listen to mainstream hip-hop, when it was good (AKA Rakim, KRS, De La Soul, etc) but I never called it pop. RUN-DMC is/was (RIP Jay) mos def mainstream hip hop but but what percentage of people on the street would be able to even hum the tune to "Tricky"?

how could kanye top college drop out. In my opinion the new album seems a little stale. Seems to be missing the magic I heard on the first kanye album. Doesn't quite pull me in. PLus kanye seems like twice as corny on this. maybe if i force fed it down my throat for a week or two i could like it.

So, seeing as my moms is as "White-America" as they come, only listens to music on commercial (popular) radio [I don't think she has ever, in her life, intentionally listened to R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Blues, etc] and she knows Kayne's songs good enough to sing 'em, I'ma hafta say he's gone Pop. He may not have started there, but he's there now. And while the textbook definition actually leans towards my niece not my moms, here it is:

Since you from the Chi I could see the whole spin gettin redundant. Don't get me wrong Kanye has produced his share of heat no question. I just don't think the level of arrogance and such is justified behind the music he makes IMO.

Same with me I haven`t heard it yet and I don`t need a bunch of mofos trying to decide for me either. You hate it or you don`t; however that doesn`t make it bad just doesn`t fit your tastes. Everybodies have different musica tastes. Put it on and listen or get up and turn to something else on at ya crib, bbq, spot on the corner, or in your whip. _Don`t funk with my stereo in my car though or your a*s will be walking.

My question would be how to make it better, how to improve on it. Cuz if you can do that your shit will be the stuff to school on so called real hip hop.

Why complain when a better producer can serve Kanye his ass on a plate with better production and take his fans away at the same time. You're labeling his music based on his success. Your logic says that the label of the music depends on who listens, not the actual music. With that logic, he could put out the exact same music, but if only the "underground" listened to it, it would be hip hop. The same logic says that if MF DOOM's music got popular all of a sudden, his music wouldn't be hip hop. That doesn't make much sense to me.

Look at crunk music. My understanding is that it started out as underground, strip club music. Same music now, but a lot more people are listening. Is it no longer crunk or hip hop because it's now popular?

Sure, Kanye is a popular artist, but he still makes hip hop music. I don't know any musicians/producers that don't want as many people as possible to listen to and love their music.

Some of y'all need to get into other music outside of hip hop. A producer is simply responsible for the sound of the songs. Quincy jones is one of the best producers of all time. Thriller is one of the most popular albums of all time... top 2 or 3 in sales by a solo artist if I'm not mistaken. Quincy Jones didn't play a single note on the album. Every instrument played was played by a session musician. Does that make him less of a producer?

The producer's job is to direct all of the musicians involved. I'm under the impression that the people that assist Kanye(& Dre & every other hip hop producer that uses sessions musicians) do so under his directions. I assume he tells them what to play, what type of feel he wants, ect, just like Quincy Jones would do.

We all can only assume what really goes on. If anyone here knows him personally and can say that he's not acting as a producer, by all means shed some light on the situation. But until then, some of y'all are trippin'.
