I wasn't a big fan of kanye at first, but some of his sh!t has grown on me. This album to me was dissapointment. To be honest there some good tracks on this album. My favorite is Diamonds, but you have to admit he didn't flip anything really sample wise. It also seems with sophmore albums, if the first album was dope alot of ppl have alot of high expectations for the next. I don't know maybe I was expecting too much. :?

I personally think that producers like Mannie Fresh and Jazzie Pha have more talent in thier pinky fingers than Kanye has period. At least they not only concept everything, but they also play everything they own dammselves.

Kanye is going to self destruct.....mark my words. Not everybody is built for fame.

theres a leak on the net which contains all of his samlpe sources for his music and i must say from what i've heard, musically what he does aint at all impressive anymore. if you where to hear most of those sample packs and go back to listen to how he used those samples you might feel like you put too much effort into your work just to struggle, while he snaggs the firs loop and add drums ( maybe up the pitch) and have Miri Ben-ari play over it. his sequences suck too.

I like this it`s an interesting opinion. Marking your your words how long will it take next year or 3 yrs?

I respect your opinion just I see a different side to it. Question that we both may agree about playing everything and making loops from your own material.

Do you feel that if the musicians of today could play like the feel and style of yesteryear like a James Poyser or a modern day Gamble and Huff for example that the previous and current needsto sample records for that sound would be unnecessary?

Cuz it not because they can`t play at all it is about the sound and vibe that they are trying to capture my opinion. I have listen to both of the artists you named in comparsion and the style, sound, and feel is very different in my honest opinion. Call it nostalgia, soul, or musicianship but the playing of both artists compared to artist of yesteryear is very different I feel.

You seem to like southern style so I get only guess you know the Isleys Brothers for example and the musicship of the people mentioned before and Isleys we can say might not be in the same league I think. That`s is why a Pete Rock or 9th Wonder would sample that. Cuz if any artist as remotely as moving could be the power movers of today.

I wish more keyboard players would step up the musicianship in their beats like that feel it would be great.

:D :D :D

Y'all would've hated hip hop in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. The essence of hip hop is finding and using breaks.

I'm all for creativity. I've never sampled anything except drum hits and vocal snipets, so I hear what y'all are saying. But at the same time, it's about the end result. In my opinion, the beats are hot. And he's gotten way better on the mic.

If you're comparing the creativity level of hip hop producers, by all means, shit on him. If you're judging on difficulty level, by all means, shit on him. If you don't like the music, by all means, don't by it. But if you're basing your opinion of the music on his process, or who did what, you're missing the point. Music is to be listened to.

Bezo wrote:Some of y'all need to get into other music outside of hip hop. A producer is simply responsible for the sound of the songs. Quincy jones is one of the best producers of all time. Thriller is one of the most popular albums of all time... top 2 or 3 in sales by a solo artist if I'm not mistaken. Quincy Jones didn't play a single note on the album. Every instrument played was played by a session musician. Does that make him less of a producer?

The producer's job is to direct all of the musicians involved. I'm under the impression that the people that assist Kanye(& Dre & every other hip hop producer that uses sessions musicians) do so under his directions. I assume he tells them what to play, what type of feel he wants, ect, just like Quincy Jones would do.

We all can only assume what really goes on. If anyone here knows him personally and can say that he's not acting as a producer, by all means shed some light on the situation. But until then, some of y'all are trippin'.

are the two peeps that i can remember that i personally agree with the most because they took a lot of what i was going to say in reading all of these post.... but what i am going to add is that personally it doesnt matter what we think as a whole, it all matters what the record sales numbers show, i know some of you thinking, "we entitiled to our own opinon." yea are but it really aint worth sh.t if you helping the world to go round. Meaning right now, believe it or not, most of us are trying to get mainstream, or at least paid, yeah, we all have a love for music, but you gotta be in idiot if you just wanna stay underground or local cause you think the cats are real underground... yea, they "real" aight, "real" broke.....aint nobody trying to be broke all they life, trying to keep the title "hip hop" under the name cause they dont wanna be called pop... why does it matter if u are called pop, if thats what you do, then do it, thats the artist in you. But the funny part is, back when Kanye when Kanye was just a beat maker, before he became an artist, some of you forgot about he produced for the one the biggest peeps in Hip Hop Jay Z, but he is Pop....

if you all didnt notice, the consumer community as a whole will be the determining factor whether or not how great this album will become...

personally my thoughts on the album, i think as far as an artist its not a bad album, as far as mainstream, i dont think popularity wise it will do as great at the last album, but again, thats my opinion....

but i overall do respect the work that Kanye has done as an overall producer/artist...and he deserves every right in the world to talk all the sh.t he wants(just like Prince can walk around in heels/stilletos and still f.ck all the chicks he want), he and any other artist in the industry has the right too brag all they want cause they know they have made it somewhere were a lot of peeps work all there life to get too and never make it... it doesnt matter if u think they the worst rapper, producer, singer, or whatever... they are there and you can only respect it, because someone is giving them there money to be there, whether is a record label or their particular artist and they make the world of music go round

Kanye has made some platinum R+B hits also, that will be remembered in 20 years(yeah ya girl will remember some of Alicia Keys stuff then). These two producers have mainly found succuess mainly in Hip Hop so far, now in actuallity, what R+B stuff would Jazzy Pha and Mannie Fresh produced R+B wise that will be remembered(besides Cierra, which would be like how we might remember GhostTown DJ's, but be for real).

Since everyone in here has a MPC, many of you actually think you are a righteous producer. If so, at least know the meanings, past or present of Music or Record Producer, here is a lil definition just in case:

In the music industry, "record producer" designates a person responsible for completing a master recording so that it is fit for release. They control the recording sessions, coach and guide the performers, and supervise the mixing process.

In the first part of the 20th century, the record producer's role resembled that of a film producer, in that the record producer supervised recording sessions, paid technicians, musicians and arrangers, and sometimes chose material for the artist. By the 1960s, record producers took a more direct role in the musical process, including arranging, engineering the recording, and even writing the material. Through it all, record producers have had a strong influence, not only on individual careers, but on the course of popular music.

Many successful recording artists have become producers in their own right, and, conversely, many producers have become recording artists.
