how long can i keep the machine turned on?

hello i´ve got it turned on for about 20 hours and since then i can´t load or save anything with my floppy-drive anymore.
when i press "load" there just comes nothing in the "file" section and when i press "do it" it says "file not found". and don´t ask if i´m shure that theres something on the floppy disk. i´ve tried some!
when i want to save, nothing happens.
HELP!!!

I don';t know why people leave their MPC's on.
Just save what you got and turn it off. Turn it back on and load up. The transformer inside the unit gets qyuite hott.
BTW... get a card reader (BURP!)

I have left mine on for months at a time...never had any problems yet...Backlight is good and it rarely freezes...

You will eventually burn out your lcd screen if you leave it on all the time. Mine did. Granted at the time I'd had the mpc2000xl for 5 years. It cost me $225 for a new screen. Not too expensive, but it took me too long to get it fixed. Plus you're way better off saving frequently, it seems like a pain I know, but when you lose some dope tracks, b/c of a power outage or somthing, damn, don't even bother trying to recreate them, its too frustrating. Plus I'm sure leaving it on for long periods wears out other parts of the mpc faster too. More mpc hours - its like more milage on a car.

eh, i "fixed" the problem...
the thing was that i had to keep it on cuz i didnt have any floppy disk.
(i have to get a zip drive!) then i found a lot of floppys in a container, and me stupid idiot didnt think of cleaning them! then of course this crap came into the floppy drive. so after frustration a lot i just blew in it some times and it worked!
by the way, i just rebuildt a sequence (or "song", untill now i always use just one sequence to do a piece of music) where there just was one sound left, the others i lost cuz the mpc freezed, and i recorded the other sounds again, then it got even better! i think it also can give you a motivation to do things better or think it thruogh twice, when you loose some data.
this for me is an interesting and new way of the process of making music.
