what is the purpose of that 16 levels button?

and how do u mute just one track at a time so you can break the beat down?

16 LEVELS question can be answered on Page. 22 in the manual. On the main screen, you can switch tracks by pressing F6 to scroll through the tracks and F5 to de-scroll through the tracks, and you mute any track you want by pressing F3...peace

Another way of muting tracks while playing a sequence is to press the track mute button while playing a sequence manual pg 6.

After just a short time with my MPC, I've found the 16 levels function to be absolutely amazing. Especially when composing melodies. Sometimes I use it on drums too, but I've found it xtra helpful with a tone sample of some kind--the 16 levels expands your horn blast or piano hit or bass drum or whatevs to a full key (12 different tones), spread over the pads from the starting point of your choice. You can choose which pad the original tone is assigned to, from 4 to 13 I think. This is a rudimentary step in getting more out of less (I'm new to samplers, obviously!).

16 levels gives you not only 12 different tones from your starting source, but you can select other 16-step options, like velocity, decay, etc. etc. Brilliant stuff, probably in my top 5 "helpful tools when composing on the MPC" list. Anyone care to list out their top 5 helpful features when composing?
