60 w/ soft sequencer

MPC 1k user thinking of switching...

I LOVE the 1k!!!! Like the sound, sequencer, never freezes and moves quick...

but I hate not being able to control the computer from the MPC's transport. Also I want more MIDI outs.

Would any 60 users recommend making the switch from the basis of a master MIDI controller/ sequencer? In this respect the 1k obviously is not up to the task....I like the sound of Blackstar record, that was on a 60 right? but I've never had too much trouble with drum sounds ne way. But lack of MTC sync is really making it hard to work with the computer.

On a side note, what's bigger out of a series 1 or series 2?

By 1 series or 2 series I assume u mean MK1 or MK2 as they r called in 60 circles... if so the MK1 is bigger. The MK1 is also better-looking IMO, not made of plastic like the MK2 and has the leather armrest. Can't beat that

The 60 will def handle your needs MIDI and sequencer-wise. I doubt there is a better sequencer with more intuitive features and dedicated buttons out there. However, if u r working with a computer, the 60 cannot "talk" with the computer other than MIDI. U will miss the drag and drop ease of the 1000 and the added storage capabilities. Once u factor in all the necessary upgrades like OS, memory, SCSI and good condition it could end up costing more than u would get 4 the 1000. U also will never want 2 go bacc. -uno-

yeah man, if you love the 1000 switching is a bad move. Controlling the computer from the 60 will be just as difficult I think. does the 1000 have midi song position pointer? that should do the trick, I think the 60 can receive MTC but only sends midi clock or MMC. But I could be wrong.

when I say control, i don't mean I want to use the MPC's clock necessarily, I just want to use the MPC transport, including fast forward/ reverse, to move the cursor in Nuendo. Would this be possible with MMC or am I off base?

I used my 60 to control reason once. It was very easy to set up and fun to play the pads but also kind of rediculous. I was combining 2 completely different eras and vibes. In a sense it didn't feel right. There was also a slight latency which was noticable to me because when Im using the 60 with my s950 or korg N5 there is 0 noticable latency. If anything buy a 60 in addition to your 1k but not to replace. Old gear can give you problems too, just somthing else to consider. A better mpc for you would be the 25 right?

the latency is your sound card most likely. I would think the 1000 with midi clock and song position pointer could do it. Wasn't it supposed to be the mpc for computer users?

I always slave the mpc to nuendo, I'll try it out the other way and see how it works, but are you sure the 1000 can't do it? If you love it I would hesitate to switch just like that.

Another consideration is I always worry the 1000 will get jacked...a 60 seems less likely to get stolen. Actually I am serious tho.

And I like big things, (esp with leather armrest) and currently have a big desk....

Is it possible to get 3.10 for free?

when I get home I will try to figure out that "song position" stuff..

It's easy to find a 60 with the upgrade already in it.

3.10 is a paid upgrade from Roger Linn Design.

Based on my recent usage of 2.12 in a friends MPC60MK2 the 3.10 upgrade is worth EVERY dollar it costs.
