What IS The Deal????

from doing a search I found a few post on MIDI pgm and SYSEX,but when I tried it my midi stayed and my drums dropped out. I had to keep reloading my drum pgm. If I mute the MIDI track the drums play fine, but if I hit play with everything unmuted the drums disappear after the first note. This is what I did:

Step Edit while on the midi track,
Control Change - Bank Select MSB - 0
Control Change - Bank Select LSB - 0
Program Change - 7

This should be the 6th sound in the 0 bank on my MO Phatt ( Chords and Hits)

The sound came up fine, but the drum programs kept dropping out. Now I am totally confused. Any Suggestions

You left out the most import piece of info:
Is the track MIDI or DRUM or BOTH?

I did'nt even know a track could be MIDI and Drum. The tracks I'm referring to are MIDI tracks. All I really want to do is have my MPC and MO Phatt set so that when I go to a new sequence that contains MIDI data I do not have to reconfigure my sound module. If the only option I have is to set up a "CC" and Program Change in the Step Edit before I record each midi track than forget it.

`Midi only` tracks do not alter drum programs. There is still something you are not telling us correctly. Is it a midi, drum or both track?

I'm telling you everything I did. I really don't know of anything else. I made sure the track that I was step editing was a midi track. When I went into the Step Record menu it said "all events" at the top, should i have changed that part?????

Hmmmm... Still trying to figure this out too. I thought it might be that the MPC doesn't recognize some controllers or control change messages, and you had to EDIT a control change in the MPC's brain. Look I'm so lossed at this point...

OK, I'll spell this out.

1) Drum programs have program change numbers just like external midi modules.
2) Drum programs only change (or go away) if you send the MPC sample engine Program Change messages or you manually change it.
3) You can send a Program Change event to the Sample engine of the MPC only if a track is set to DRUM or DRUM/MIDI.

If this is not clear, the manual has the official explanation.

I recorded the program changes in the pgm: field, in each sequence and it switched fine. My problem was a sounds a bit different from the MoPhat, but I recorded the program changes as: S:Drum1: 10a-ect.

I had to do this for each sequence.

Thanks for the DRUM/MIDI tip, it makes sense, I didn't know you could do drum/midi. I guess it's important to recognize that it's the sampler that gets this message 1st then the slaved midi device. If I'm not on target please let me know. But it worked, my only question would be if you make program changes to an external midi device in Drum/Midi mode what happens to your regular programs that are loaded onto the machine?

I'm going to try this out as soon, but I've been hunched over the machines like quazimoto.

BTW I did check the manual before I asked my question. I am not one that is afraid of literature. I figured out the problem by going through my Step Edit on each track "drum" and "midi". On one of my "drum" tracks the "Control Change - note off" function was set for 02.01.01 thus the explanation as to why I was hearing the first note and then nothing on the drum pads. Simple resolution and definitely user error. Thanks for being patient. Everything is "Peachy" now!
