Sequencing Tips and Techniques...Need Help!!!!

I was just wondering how some of the more experienced users out there sequence and put their songs together. I have been using computer software for too long, and have just made the step and coverted to an MPC. I love it so far, but I'm having trouble sequencing my songs.

I usually like to create complex loops in a 4 to 8 bar format, copy it all to indivivual sequences and then just mute certain tracks for certain sequences and order them in song mode. This is quite time consuming and doesnt really allow me to do everything I want to do. Any tips or advice?

Also, any way to record a pattern by just muting in and out a certain track? Is there a way I can do that in real time? Maybe Step Edit, but I don't really get the gist of that yet.

If it helps for you guys to understand where I'm coming from. I'm used to create and sequencing loops on fruityloops and then importing them into Protools for final mix and instrumentation.

one thing ive done in the past is to record a good take of you muting and unmuting pads.....note down in bars where those changes take place....then use the delete function to isolate partiular data in particular segments to imitate the mute function......

so if i wanted the beat to drop out on the very last bar of a turnaround i would instead of stringing two seqs together, 1 with the beat and 1 without i would simply delete the beat for the bars i dont want it to play....in the delete screen you can define where and what it deletes....

Dubmonkey not trying to sound funny or an innoying rookie, but can you use the delete function while playing the beat and if so. Is it possible to record your mute live?

That sounds like a good idea, but then in order to keep a progression going through the track and not just the same thing repeated over and over again, I would have to keep copying sequences and using that delte technique on individual tracks in the copied seuences right? That seems like it can't be the easiest way but maybe I'm just ignorant.

Also, when I convert a song into a sequence, why do I lose the individual track information. Tracks that were muted in the first sequence of a song remain muted throughout when I converrt and tracks that were unmuted remain so even when they get to a part they are supposed to be muted! What's up?

Not possible to record your mute while playing.
You cannot use the "delete" when overdubbing/playing.
You CAN use the erase button while overdubbing.

the reason the you lose the track messages when you convert song to sequence is because in song mode, there are many sequences compiled together. in each individual sequence your track settings can be different. so thats why i think.
