... is the pads wearing out and getting poor response.

I've heard so many ppl on here say thier pads got weak and they have to hit them harder and harder to get the same response... even someone claiming to only 'press' his pads lightly had the same problem... thats the only thing that scares me.

I mean, shit.. the 1k is hot, the new OS coming, the HD option coming, USB transfers.. yowzers.. but its all worthless if the pads happen to die on me.

Can any 1k users without weak pads offer me some comfort & solace?

it's not everyone. i've had my 1k for over a year and mine never got weak, neither has any of my buttons got weak, cracked, got loose. it's all how you use it. put it like this in baseball, everyone who hits the ball, doesn't break the bat. but if you go by people's bat breaking when they hit the ball, will that stop you from going up to the plate? no... you might ask how are they holding the bat when it breaks and then you just avoid holding the bat like that when you hit the ball.

Thats cool to hear. How long ago did you purchase your MPC? Do you consider yourself to be 'soft' on it, or would u claim to be 'heavy handed'?

depends how hard you bash them, i know this from experience

i'll admit, at first i was really heavy handed. then i eased up, i turend the sensitivity up and was a bit lighter on them.

the pads i used to use as my kick and snare, 1 and 2, are hardly sensitive, and almost dead. thats my fault though. since ive easd up, and changed what pads were my kick and snare, ive had no problems, and haevn;t noticed and bad response from them.

the pad issue is an interesting one.

my first mpc had messed up pads so i returned it. i then used this mpc since last december.

just today i fixed a broken pad using thermal grease. it now triggers every time i hit it, and now that i know how to, i think i could fix any others.

often, the problem seems to be that the pad does not trigger all over the pad itself, only in one part. this issue is caused because the graphite that is in between the rubber and sensor gets moved from its origianl location.

this can be fixed with ceran wrap, thermal pads/thermal grease or even tin foil.

the mpc1000 pads are an issue. the only way i use em live is with note on to make sure every note registers. the issue previously with the pad i repaired is that it didn't always trigger. now with the thermal grease it works perfectly every time.

not to mention the facts that the pads are only 16 bucks to replace apiece

no matter for me i just use the full level button. if you hit it soft it produces the harder sound. you can always 16 level for velocity. so theirs ways around the pads "breaking" gyeahhh.

nah, i notice the two pads i use the most have worn out,

Pad 15 and Pad 1, Pad 15 when I am trimming a sample
and Pad 1 cause thats like where the sample always gets put first,
So now after a year of doing that its lost sensitvity.

This has never happened on my XL after 3 yrs. so boy its poor manufacturing as far as I am concerned,. I regret buying it in the US, no warrenty to help me out. oh well.

That sounds a little nasty - I will say though; I've had mine since mid summer and all pads operate fine. I believe as long as you are sensible with the strength of your strike, and adjust pad sensitivity accordingly, they should give you a reasonable life duration.

They are replacable which is good. I feel they could look at some longer term solutions for pad life, like it sounds like they did with the XL etc. Damn, it is the same company after all.

*begins to wonder*

Its gonna be hard for me to replace the pads here in switzerland. So i hooooopeeeee that i dont have that problem.
