Is there a way to filter out the lo's on the mpc2000XL?

no.

specs say:
12db/Octave dynamic resonant lowpass filter per voice.

not even with the FX card?

The 4 band filter in the effects card to me is actually a "weak eq".

It's NO WHERE near the filters that everyone expects when they hear the word "filter".

This is the filter that is standard on the machine "not the efx card".

the mfc 42 works nicely with the 2000xl

yes, invert your wave form and layer it over the original- when you hit the pad you should here silence as both waves are cancelling each other out...then filter one of them and you'll hear the sound become high passed...

Dubmonkey's right on the money. Oldest trick in the book, I used to do that with my first sampler (S2000).

how do you invert the waveform? do i need a computer?

yar- if you have soundforge or anything like that its generally one of the options...

it will simply be called 'invert' or 'invert wave'...

and visually what that will do is flip the wave on its center axis- when played with the non inverted one everything is cancelled provided you layer it on the same pad- THEY MUST PLAY AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME.....

someone else may be able to point you towards a free app that does that if you dont have a wave editor...ive only ever used sound forge for these things...

Hmmm... I just tried it on my MPC2000xl... It doesn't seem to work as good as it used to on my S2000. I can't get the waveforms to fully cancel. Maybe Peak doesn't invert the waveforms properly. I tried delaying one sample by a few sample points but no luck.

anyway, here's the result: MPC HPF trick

It starts off with the MPC HPF trick on a drumloop, and then the same loop through a Sherman filterbank.

Then a second loop with the HPF trick, than that loop with me fcking with the desk EQ to get a HPF (works better imo), and then that loop through the Filterbank again.

It ends with a record through the filterbank - this has more for the filter to work on.

MAN that Sherman's dirty! In HPF mode it's dirtier than in LPF.

It used to be pretty cool on the S2000, because you could change the filter while the sample played, and you got a proper HPF sound because the waveforms fully canceled.

On the MPC, I couldn't be bothered. If you're going to put the samples in an editor anyway you might as well filter them there with a plugin. Or if you have a decent mixing desk (anything better than Mackie) you could just use the desk EQ, which is what I usually do on my Midas desk.
