it is a laptop 2.5" ide drive. right now, if you look at this, this will give you a good starting point. but just about any toshiba (up to 80gb) will work. look below:

Yea i just got a call from Akai 30min ago tellin me that its shippin out Monday......YEA!!! And i went to staples today and coped a sandisk 512MB FC but sparq where did u get ur hard drive from???Online or store??? Ive checked Best Buy Staples and Circuit City and hey dont have them HDs....Know any good Online site where i can get mines???

They charged my card too so now I'll have both of my machines with the 40gig drive. I'm just waiting to receive to install. I cant wait.

Akai will ship mine Monday. It's on now.

yea I was searching as well and couldnt find ne info on this...everyones mentioning the toshiba drive though so im thinking that we cant jus use old drive

How silent is the Toshiba Sparq?
If it makes the slightest noise i know it will irritate me

I would go =with the Toshiba-MK4026Gax, since the specs have already been tested. Yo sparq I wnt on an order my hard drivekit to. talk to one of the reps he said that their still tweaking the O>S .

newegg shipping UPS is 3-days,if you order the hddrive,I received my Toshiba pretty quick,. I figure since akai is shipping by truck monday, i give them (HDM10) till
friday or Sat to arrive , some area's my vary, I'm just 4 1/2 hrs away. T"

now that the kit is ready for consumer shipping, when you receive it and hook it up, don't bee too concerned on why the mpc isn't recognizing the entire volume of the hard drive. remember that i said until you get the new OS, it will only see 2gb of your hard drive regardless if you have a 40,60 or 80gb drive. you also have to format the drive as soon as you install it prior to saving anything to it. you would format it the same way you format your CF card. when the OS2.0 comes out, and you install it, you will not have to reformat the hard drive. OS 2.0 will automatically see the entire volume of your hard drive and you will not lose any data on it.
