yes it does note on,off,velocity,gate,curve controls are linear & exponential as well as a few other options & also covers program change messages as well so you can actually change pank banks by assigning the pads accordingly..pretty amazing little unit, I 'd recommend you d/l the manual off the net as its MID functions are extensive

yea i really liked the videos. i think you posted in your music, too. i thought it sounded nice. i like that thin you bangin on. you can get a tight groove goin with that.

so the spd11 comes with sounds? i was reading about the spd20 and it has 100 patches, more tone banks, etc...were you loading the sounds up yourself or did those come on the spd? my fault if you answered those questions already...

yeah bro its all good, thanx for the feed...Umm I'm in Australia actually...to make a libg story short all spd factory sounds are sh!t...BUT it is extremely flexible for MIDI stuff tho...so unfortuanately I don't own an MPC but I have a little SP 505 sampler & I also run it to my MIDI input on my soundcard and use Battery [thats what I was using in the videos]
I'll post 4 acoustic drum videos up shortly...but yeah you can pretty much be a 1 man band with a decent sampler ...trick is to have a kick trigger

best spd to get would prolly be the 11 as they are old now and cheaper..there is a spds model that hhas a built in sampler but they are exy $$$

I am impressed, I must have one! Iv'e been drumming for a few years on the acoustic but I want to practise 24/7. I have seen one on ebay for 400AUS with no pedals, is this a good price? and is ebay the best avenue? ps im in australia also

hey m-prez,

don't throw out that cheapo midi drumkit. there is software out there that can run behind ableton and filter your midi messages into whatever you want.

its possible to have any sorts of midi messages transmitted into ableton and then out to your mpc. you can even get it translated into keyboard input so you can control all of abletons interface from the drumkit.

theres a program ive been reading about called bidule, which is a virtual midi port, one of the building-blocks of the software can filter messages. check www.plogue.com
it requres a fair bit of reading, but it looks like it is very worthwhile.

V, i checked out those vids today just before i left for work. i really enjoyed them mate' . we should definately hook up to work something out.

after not having any time to use my mpc for a year, ive defiantely forgotten alot of how to operate it. now seemed like a good time to join up here'

Nikk we should hook up I've got a stack of dope drum kits now firing off those pads and need an MPC chap to hook it up live..we could cover alotta ground with my setup & yours..get at me on hotmail again

mate. I'm no midi expert either but I had a similar problem getting my SPD11 to work with the SP505 till i setup the program change # for each pad to then build up a bank of pads that sent the same PC# thus allowing me to "tell" the sp505 the midi note & program change #....so before ya go buyin anything reply with the make & model of this drumpad ya got?

Jacko...whats the [PUTS site?] & yeah $400 pretty good price for it if its in good cond....you'll need a kick trigger, you could make ya own OR buy the Yammy one [about $170AUS i think]

yeah man I prep all the samples first then load em up in Battery..also using Sonar I can run plug in fx whilst in record arm mode without the fx being bypassed..as for that particular sound I cannot remember but thanx for peepin em...check the real drum videos at the bottom of that 1st post too for some str8 up kick,snare & hat action..pz

yeah bro I'm not sure eh..u certainlyt won't get one in a shop ..maybe try cashies,eGay etc...I swapped a '65 fender showman tube amp head for mine and a S900 so I dunno, I think the dude who bought mine paid $600 about 2 yr ago now so I'd assume $400 is a good price, just make sure its exactly what ya want cause I tell ya the stock sounds are total ass eh..only use it for midi triggerin eh..basically you can play at about 1/5th of ya skills on them cause even tho they transmit all the midi bullshit, it aint nothin like playin a real kit...the whole approach is way different..watch teh real drummin videos and you'll see what I mean, you can almost forget about playin ghost notes on em effectively, cause gum rubber pads don't react the same as mesh heads [vdrums/yamaha system etc] if your recording then the use of programs like Sound Replacer and heavy gating on ya recorded drums can be more effective and not lose any feel...I say this cause I got mine and thought I'd be killing it on the spd11 but I tell ya its a lotta hard work..and I been playing drums now for 20 years, so choose wisely bro..I would recommend if you only been playin for a coupla years that you look at a brand called legend, they make a vdrum rip off thats about $800 for a big ass 9 piece thing or something but you can buy pieces off it ie. head and a coupla pads...thats my advice and I think it would be better for ya eh..

so the stock sounds are shit, Iv'e got a 2KXL and Iv'e been making kits for ages, could I simply use any drum sound from the MPC?

so I cant do ghost notes on the snare... - the pads have bounce dont they?

basically I want to trigger a sample at the drum kit with a stick. Ideally like a rubber crash that plugs into my MPC.

But after watching your videos Im keen on using it for practise coz my acoustic shi@s the neighbors.

yeah bro u can play any one shots ya got off ya MPC no worries..and yeah the rubber pads of the spd11 can handle ghost notes its just not the same feel as a drum head that yeilds a lil when ya hit it so in fact you can drop triplets but its just not the same eh...go into a drum shop and play an electronic that has rubber pads and you'll see what I'm gettin at...but all up you'll be able to trigger, but if it were me I'd wanna play mesh heads if I was "practicing" and for makin beats.. I think Billy Hydes drum shop stock Legend..they are basically a Vdrum rip off bt heaps cheaper....
makin ya own triggers can be done by tossing your heads on ya acoustic kit, buying mesh heads and ddrum or dot style MIDI triggeres..then buy a MIDI box to convert all the inputs [kik,snr,hats.etc] search the net and you'll find heaps info on this shit
