Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Flux302 Tue Dec 27, 2005 2:13 am
my buddy just got a 2kxl off the bay and what we thought was a bone stock mpc turned out to be a fully blown (less flash rom) mpc with mcd drive.
now i know some might think it crazy but the mcd has got to go! the media cards are to expensive considering i can get like 30 zip's for about 30 bucks. and i use zip in mine so we want easy transfer (with out having to hook a scsi drive to it)
so now the meat of the issue. the guy who installed the mcd apparently cut 2 of the wires off the power cable. now i need a new cable. what kind of cable is it exactly called and where to get it. (more what is it exactly called.) thanks.... oh and this is i think one of my first posts here. i'm usually over at futureproducers.com but recently have been on here more and more. so look forward to talkin with ya. 8)

In my opinion you should keep tha mcd. Why would u wanna down grade when u can simply get a external zip? whats wrong with an external zip? U say u can buy 30 zip disks for the price of one flash card. So what. You can get a 2 gig flash card for like 59.00 and it will be the only card u need for the next few years. Lemme break it down. An internal zip plus cables and everything will run about 60.00 + plus the headache of installation. if u do that then u will not be able to use the mcd anymore. But... if u get a external zip you will pay about 24.99 total, plus you will still have use of the mcd. You feel me?

If you can get ZIP disk cheaper than Media Cards you are shopping the wrong place unless you are buying used ZIP Disk.
If you are using used ZIP Disk then you are very brave.
Everytime they come out with a larger size of Media card the previous ones become cheaper and cheaper.
If you want to be logical then get an External SCSI ZIP and connect it to the MCD XL, but replacing the MCD with a Internal ZIP is a bad move no matter how you look at it.

really what it it is that it's my boy's mpc and well to put it nice. he's not very knowledgable on this ish. so i'm trying to keep it as basic and easy for him as possible. scsi belive it or not scares him right now. he wants exactly what i use.i have the external zips already... so it's not a huge issue and i'm not gettin rid of the mcd it's really jsut till all is cool with him learning. i dunno how many 100mb zips are in a 1 gig scan disk?.... i dunno if its like 10 or a hundred (gig to mb?) lol. if it's ten then it's not worth it i go through that many in about 4 months last i checked a 1gb scan disk is like 70 bucks. if it's 100 then yeah thats cool. though i do like the fact that zips are easy to seperate. ten beats here ten beats there. not 1000 beats here 1000 beats there. plus i always have a duplicate to back my beats up. so that means to scan disk cards every four months ouch. ahhh

ah just figured out it's only 10... your tellin me you can find 3500 mb's or 3.5 gigs of space (aside from hd) for under 35.00 u.s. ? i'd love that cause i do like how fast the mcd is. but price wise i'm not seein it.

I still use zips and don't plan on switching but you should talk to your friend and convince him to use the zips. It's not that complicated.I know you already know that but to have someone sit down next to him and show him will be a big help in the long run.

internal zip and internal mcd use the exact same data and power wires.

is it four wires... cause the mpc he got only has 2 wires connected and looks like 2 were cut. my zip has four.

hence the problem... we've decided to keep the mcd in and jsut scsi it. i also picked up a usb zip and a usb mcd for my pc so we can transfer files quick regardless of eich mpc we're using. i still like the cheapness of the zip over the speed of mcd.... oh well maybe soon the sd cards will be 1 gb for only like 30 bucks. then i'd use it for sure.
