CDS WITH DRUM SAMPLES FOR THE mpc 1000

sup guys... this is a quick question...
i was lookin on ebay for cds that are full of drum samples...
a lot of them are made for the mpc 2000 and 2000xl
is there any way to transfer those sounds in a 1000... i tried to read up on ebay but i didnt find any info
sorry guys... its cuz i dont own an mpc yet and im still deciding which one i should buy... been savin up for a long time.. i wanna make the right decision

if they are in the 2k format, then the samples are probably in the .snd file format. if you google it there are plenty of programs that convert .snd to .wav

one of which is called snd2wav

but when os2.0 comes out, it would be able to read .snd files.

we woundnt know unless we are selling em, ask the seller who is selling em. If they are in WAV format they should work.

but the secret to the best drums..................is cuttin up your own from records.

i would never buy the sample cds on the net, because they are always cheap quality, well the ebay ones. and its just a real lame way to get your drums. i guess im just used to cuttin em up.

yes, sample from records (if you can)

but don't limit yourself too sampling only. you can dl for free, samples from vintage drummachines in plenty of places.

and again in this very forum, quite a few peeps posted free samples (check the ones from user patalinda)

btw, a lot of ebay sample cds are in fact compilation of free samples downloaded from the internet. so i would rather buy the samples from the website of this forum than these dodgy ebay cds. (check the links top of the forum page).

and dont forget to layer all these sounds in order too create your own!

thx guys for all ur input.. ure right... i shold cut records up to get different samples... but to tell you the truth im just starting... so im just looking to learn how the machine works first then start really getting into it... is this a good way of thinking? or shold i off the bat start collecting samples from records?

i collected records way before i started making beats.....if you dont have records, and you dont have music equipment....dont buy records and dont buy an MPC., the reason i say is becuase if you dont know anything you should play with one first or find a homie who has musical equiment and master that before you start investing money into something you know nothing about, ya get what im saying? why would a 5 year old buy a condom?

im lookin at the mpc as the next step for me
but thx for lookin out i appreciate it brotha... i just wanna know one thing tho
the records i have are stuff ud hear ina club or some old schoool beats... even old diana ross village ppl type records
but when i look out for a record in a store... as a producers point of view.... what should i look for... is it a certain sound that attracts me? or wat

when it come to sampling, you should do some research on music like jazz and stuff, like take a jazz history class somewhere, because in order to look for samples you gotta know musicians and stuff, like if i want some trippy type samples i would go to sun ra or even ornette colmann, ya know?

dates are crucial i would say, like jazz during this period and funk during that would be a good start, even thought their are exceptions.

you can also pic any reocrd in your local charity shop. it is not the date of the record which will bring you the best samples imho.

when it comes to sampling the genre is irrelevant. listen to any sounds, there is one you like or find interestring, then sample it, otherwise leave it.

i guess music history lesson must be really interesting, but it seems such an overhead for simple stuff like finding sounds one like (and no need for lessons to know stuff such as sun-ra )

as Luke Vibert said in an interview, the best BD he found came from some terrible rock records. (and he makes fantastic avangarde kind off hip hop and chill out drum&bass/electronica )

so as the cheesy saying say:
