2000XL transition to 2500 a fvckin' nightmare!

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this unit isn't meant to be a replacement for the 2KXL.

They didn't advertise along witht the other MPCs in the newest Scratch mag. it was just the 4000, 2500, 1000, and the mpd. No 2000xl in there. Not being an azz, just pointing out an observation.

i saved as .all and .aps for almost nine years. if those options are so wrong and "lazy" they shouldn't have been options. i've tried to go back and resave every which way possible! ish don't work. mabe it's because i had a 2000 and not an xl. but it does not work. what am i doing wrong?

Why wait for Akai Pro to do it? Why don't you do like what I did and write and APS to PGM convertor yourself. I wrote it since some complete stranger asked me nicely. I do not even use it myself since I have always saved as pgm and aps

I'll consider myself wrong, and I have no problem admitting that. I still see it as succeeding the 2KXL in a non-traditional manner, a la the Motif 6 which is still being made and sold, even with both the ES and MO-series on the market. Meaning, the 2KXL will still be available for sometime. When a company retires a product it goes into their "legacy" section. The last time I checked their site, not only is the 2KXL STILL up there, but it's on the HOME page AND their comparison chart. They usually don't put discontinued items on the comparison charts, much less the home page. The 2KXL hasn't gone down in price, either. When something comes out to replace an item, the older items sees an immediate price reduction. The Motif ES Rack comes out and the Motif Rack goes down. When the Korg TR came out, the LE immediately went down. When the 2KXL came out, the 2K went down, etc., etc..

Nonetheless, you guys are right, and I'm wrong.

The 2000XL is probably the best selling MPC of all time. Its time to pay the respect it deserves...and retire its number and let it hang in the rafters like the other greats....bow down

Haha, maybe, but I'd bet my money on the original 2K. I'm telling you, when that bad boy hit, it sold like nothing else I've known. I was actually saving up for the 3K when it hit, so I managed to get one early, even though it was sold out EVERYWHERE (I got lucky and found a place in Maryland). They didn't iron everything out until the last version...right when the XL came out.

I haven't decided on the 2.5K or the 4K, but in either case, I've already have gotten into the habit of dumping stuff after it's finished to avoid any unforseen problems. I'll also put the other advice into play so I'll be ready regardless.

I don't know....when the 2000 hit...I bought one immediately. It was the first MPC that was affordable At $2300 with no options and only 2MB of memory. But just 2 years later..when the XL dropped, I quickly replaced the 2000. Almost everybody I know that had a 2000 replaced it for an XL..for the adjustable screen alone. The 2000 got me the most eBay sells for sure being that they were/are dirt cheap.

Whoa! $2300?! Where'd you get yours from? I think I paid $1250 for the base model. Ironically, I don't know anybody that traded in the XL. Everybody I know that had one still has it. Thinking about it, though, with all the years, it probably has sold more, but I wouldn't doubt that the original isn't far behind. The 2K hit at the perfect time, as computer-based users, and the way things are in general now, hadn't really dug in yet.

get all your 2000 songs on compact flash cards
take em to guitar center
load em into the mpc1000 which DOES read .all files
resave em as project files in separate folders (and gape at how much faster 1000s do it than older versions)
....and THEN
take em home to your 2500s and get the sand out of your vaginas

You didn't pay $1250 for the base model of the original MPC 2000 when it was released.

Japan wasn't even selling them that low in 1997. I got mine from Guitar Center back then. They were selling them for a few months when the first dropped. They dropped to about $1800 a little while later, When the XL dropped it was about $1800....the best deals in Japan around 1999 were about $1300-$1500. The XL was selling like hot cakes when it dropped..it added additional features and was cheaper and easier to install options. If you look around today..they are everywhere.

If what you say works...then yes i am that crazy son of a b!tch to go out & buy an MPC1000 just to be able to get 400+ songs to play right on my 2500.
