mpc 2000xl completely unresponsive/tech help?

hey guys,

bought my 2000xl a couple months ago from guitar center, didn't test it within the 30 days they give you on used gear, but everything powered up (i didn't have sounds at the time). i finally loaded a disc in, the mpc freaked out after getting the sounds and started playing them at random. none of the buttons were being responsive. now the disc won't load at all and the mpc just seems frozen and i'm not sure what to do...i hope i didn't just drop $1000 on a pretty gray box. any tips on how you think i might get this thing to respond, or if anyone knows of a tech in the detroit area that won't cost me half of what i paid for the machine? any help would be appreciated.

but most likely u'll need to talk to vst...they fix anything mpc/akai/elstric/musical/whatever

at first i thought the pads were just not working, then all u had to do was bang on it cuz u have a short in the pad connector (problem i have and am too broke to fix)

i mean, i would say re-load the os, but u said the disc drive wont load anything..

cheap maitenance? get another zip or floppy drive,
get a new disc,
put the new os on it from www.akaipro.com
see what happens

one thing u can also do is checkl the pads to see if they work

hit shift +6 to go to the program screen
then hit f1 to go to the frst drum thingy
start pressing pads and see if the numbers change

if they dont, ur fked

if they do, its most likey just your disc drive actin a damn fool

thanks for the tips; i tried getting to the program screen, but like i said, nothing responds. i'll try to reinstall the OS later tonight and see what happens. how do i get a hold of vst? i think this will ultimately be an electronics issue that i won't be able to fix myself.

you spent a stack on a USED machine yet didnt try it out till after the warrantee was up.......

im assuming you are new to the mpc, which is why im going to say this.

where did you get your sounds from? it might be the sound disk that may not be any good (corrupt).

if you could provide more info about the sound disk, that would help try to narrow this down.you may not have a bad unit.

yes, i know, i blew it by not testing it sooner, but i could've either been defeatist about it and given up like an idiot and swallowed the financial loss, or tried a forum to see if someone has seen this problem before to try to help me through it. i opted for the latter.

i got the sounds from a friend of mine who "borrowed" it from the studio he works at. I'm pretty sure it's the unit that's corrupt right now and not the disc because when i power it up without the disc, i still can't switch the pad bank or get into the program menu or anything. i could try another disc just to double check. also, i still haven't tried loading the new OS, so i want to give that a shot before taking it in to have someone who knows better look at it. i'll try that tomorrow and post an update to let you guys know what it does.

something similar happend to me a while back...I loaded a disk, the mpc started randomly going through sounds in ssslllooowww mmmmmooo than it crashed...I figuered it was fuked so I didnt really mess with it till about a month later I pulled out both memory sticks blew compressed air in them closed er up and she came back to life...Just turned out one of the memory sticks wasnt seated all the way in, think it got joggled loose from drumming on the pads...so yeah...try that.

try that and if that doesn't work try booting it with the memory sticks out , if the memory is bad it will make the mpc bug out. I have heard of this problem (i think) and u should try the memory. If it works fine when u take the memory out well then obviously it is the memory.

Also make sure that you never spilled a big gulp on it. I have lost two MPC's, a Fantom, and an ASR-10's because I dropped big gulps on them on different occasions. Keep the beverages away from your gear. Actually a big gulp sounds pretty good right now.
