should i trade??

I used an MPC2000XL for 2 years. Ever since the MPC3000 came out I wanted one. It would be years before that would happen. So, I sold my 2000XL to get an MPC3000 (I went backwards!!). The nightmare began when I received it and the sidearm came broken. Can't do anything about that cause they dont make those parts.... I'm over that.

The internal ZIP on the 3000 doesn't work. Luckily I have an external, but...

Then, I realized that all those great files & sounds, etc., etc. that I created on the MPC2000XL will not work on the 3000 in the current format. So I have to either transfer them via MIDI or import them into my Mac and use a progam editor to get them back into the 3000. However, how do I get them back into the 3000 from the Mac? The easiest way is to get a CD-ROM. I love the 3000, thats the truth, but the switch has been harder than I could've imagined.

The 2500 is awesome to say the truth, but I bet that the switch isn't as cool as you think. I thought about that before going to the 3000, but you don't get SCSI, ZIP, FLOPPY.

I'm starting to admire all of those Cats that use the MPC60 and 3000. I mean look at Pete Rock. He prefers to chop em up manually and prefers using vinyl over sample libraries. Its harder, but he can get it done on that machine.

My finals words are: DONT SELL YOUR MPC2000XL for nothing. Thats a great machine. I want mine back!

I have to say, being able to scratch over your track and record while it's playing is a bonus for me (I believe the 2500 does this).

I bought my 2KXL to get me away from using my PC. I wanna make the whole tracks on the MPC and just use my PC to record. The 2500 seems to give you more of those functions (and off the bat) for less grind. But if it aint broke. Jesus, the pros use it. Someone mentioned Pete Rock for example.

That said, I sometimes wish I'd saved a bit more and got the 4000! I probably would never use all the features. It's all about convenience for me (and a bit of the dreaded gear lust) after using my PC for chopping etc. Plus I wanna get rid of a lot of my other gear and size down to MPC, keyboard, smaller mixer and PC (rarely) only.

It's all totally doable with the 2KXL and a bit of patience. Do what you feel is right.

Do you forget everyone else research like the man say, check out a demo model at the store, and do your homework. Switching gears is no big deal as long as you have no regrets. Do your homework first and talk to that Jahrome guy ha, ha.

just remember that the 2500 has no scsi so you cant hook up your zip drive to it and upload the tracks you did on the 2000xl.
