problem sampling synth into xl

having a nightmare at the moment trying to sample stuff from my jv-1080 into the mpc - i've done it before but can't for the life of me remember how

my midi controller is an old yamaha psr k/bd, and can't select midi channels itself so i can only play the jv when i'm in sequence mode on the mpc,

so i wanna sample some percussion but in sample mode the mpc stops sending the midi from the controller to the jv,

anyone know how i can re-wire the midi to get around this? i tried running the midi out of the controller straight into the jv but it won't play it in performance mode (like it does thru the mpc) meaning i can't select the rhythm parts i want

it's setup like this:
controller midi out----> mpc midi in
mpc midi out----> jv midi in

well if your in sample mode, its not gonna record midi. midi isnt audio midi is just messages/information.

why would u want to sample the sounds from the jv instead of just sequencing the midi?

maybe i worded it wrong...

i wanna sample some percussion from it in my mpc,

i know that midi isn't audio my point is that when in sample mode, my k/board will no longer trigger the notes i want to sample, leaving me no way of triggering the sounds into it - i know there's a way around it so that the k/bd will still trigger the sounds in the current setting of the jv but i can't remember! i'll have to mess around with it again tonight

i didnt know there was a way around that in sample mode. because when your on the main screen and you want to use anything midi, you have to set the track up for midi...(i.e. change DRUM to MIDI:1a etc...) and when your in sample mode, your not able to specify what midi channel to use...so it dosnt allow you to sample midi

but of course i may be wrong, there may be a way around it. just trying to help, paul. good luck.

also, im using the mpc 2000 so it may be different from what ur using.

the 2000 can't send midi signals while sampling.
disconnect your midi keyboard from the mpc.

take a midi cable and plug into to the midi IN on the jv-1080 and take the other end of that midi cable and plug it into the OUT on the keyboard.
make sure that your jv-1080 is set to midi channel 10.
(((the jv-1080 only sends out drums from midi channel 10)))
