ZIP DRIVES HELP ME

i just got my 2000 xl mcd, and i want to save my shit on zip drives, instead of CF cards, don´t ask me why, thats just what i prefer to do.

can i use any kind of zip drives and zip disks? or is it anything i have to make sure before i buy one?

Why do you want Zips instead of the card reader? Dude... you really need to do a search. I switched mine from the Zip250 to a card reader. It's a hell of alot easier, faster and more reliable than the Zips. But thats me though...

my zip drive failed on me a while ago. i dont think ill go that route again. i recommend them for the new folks and stuff, but i cant do it anymore. too many erros. the good man Lampdog told me i should try the card readers. im sure he's right. they seem to be more stable (or so they say)....

but since you wanna go the zip route, 100mb zips only read 100mb disks. 250mb zips only read 250mb zips (i think)....

Get a usb cf reader for pc if you have the extra cash. do transfers to the pc that way. Dude, stay away from zips.

oh, BTW did you know that ISSUES saved a bunch of money on his car insurance?

Zip drives are backward compatible, meaning you can use the newer drive with the older disks, but not the other way 'round. Meaning 250 drives can read 100mb disks but 100 drives can only read 100mb disks. Also, regardless of what drive it's in, the 100md disks load/save a lot slower than the 250s.

people have problems with zip discs because they are sensative.

1. never leave disc's in the drive after you turn off the drive. i would even eject immediatly after you have loaded what you need.
2. Dont let the disc's get near magnets speakers or headphones.
3. in general alway turn on the zip drive first then insert the disc then turn on the mpc.
4. If using more than one disc to load sound into the mpc at one time dont forget to "reset" the drive. Load sounds from disc 1 then hit main screen then hit Load again(you can also turn the data wheel away from scsi 5 then load the next disc). Make sure that the line that shows a Name of a sample is blank before you insert disc 2, or all files from disc 1 will be copied to disc 2 whatever was on disc 2 is deleted and when you try to load disc 2 it will say disc error.

i would love to upgrade to a card reader. I am very poor and the cards are expensive. I need so many things for the studio right now.

the good news is this guy from my dads work doesnt use his Zip disk's any more he gave my dad a box of 20-30. 99% 100mb hes going to ship them to me. SCORE !!!!

zip disks are of course quite obsolete. Used ones are worth practically nothing. so those of us stuck in the past keep your eyes & ears open for people abandoning zip discs.

You need a SCSI MAC zip drive and you need the cord from what hook's up to the zip to 50pin MAC to go into the mpc scsi.

preferably the 250 because you CAN use 100mb or 250mb disc's.

...good info...yeah, i when i get the money i'll get a cf...until then i got to work with what i got...that's why i want to save my stuff to my laptop...
