Hi MPC fans,

I m looking for a way to transfer files and samples from my MPC to my PC and vica versa. There s only 1 thing i dont understand:

Why is it possible to transfer files with cf card and PMCIA and not with ZIP disks?

(Or is that possible too? i found on this forum a lot of people who couldn t transfer files with ZIP disks.)

Sorry if this is a stupid question but i m MPC newbie

It is possible to transfer files with a ZIP.

The complication is that you need two of what ever drive/storage medium you are using.
i.e. A ZIP hooked up to your computer (SCSI, parallel or USB) and a SCSI ZIP hooked up to your MPC (or installed internally)

For CF cards, same thing, a multi card reader (usually USB) hooked up to your Computer and the number one source of confusion on this forum, the CF reader, internal or external.

Either way your best bet is to have a dedicated disk or card just for transferring files and another for saving your finished PGM, ALL, APS, SND etc files on. You should always have a backup of everything, ZIPs will fail frequently and cards get lost.

That's just the transfer medium, there's also the whole business of file format (SND vs WAV), disk formatting (I use Mac OS X and I have never had a problem though)

For the answers to those questions the frequently mentioned search button is now your best friend.

When asking a question please indicate what model of MPC you have and any relevant info about your computer set up.

THX for the answer, so it is possible.
more info for my setup:

MPC 2000xl with internal ZIP drive
PC with Windows XP whit SP2

so i was thinking for a ZIP drive for my PC for file transfering between the two.
Any idea whats the best way to format the disk? I know its better to format on the MPC.

This link is just a start.

I don't use XP so I am not comfortable giving advice on the disk issues related to it. There is tons more info in the forum if you search for it. I really reccomend searching because if you don't make some attempt to find the answer yourself the Hell Hounds of the forum will be loosed upon your sorry ass and it's not a pretty sight to behold.
This is the way this forum works.
Good luck and good hunting.

Format on pc fat16.
Use filenames no longer than 8 characters.
Throw sounds from pc on there and take that disk to mpc 2kxl.

I use to do this exact same thing. Now I have the cf reader in my 2kxl and I still do the exact same thing but now I use cf. I also have a usb cf reader on my pc.
