doing a drum roll

i was just wondering if ne one could help me out i was wondering how to do a tom roll just how heatmakerz do theres just before a drop cause ive been tryin to do it on my mpc but it just doesnt work out can ne body help me in how to do a good tom roll thank you

in their video, he kept his finger on that note repeat. they use that a lot.

note repeat with the 16-levels...the toms seem like they fade away

If you have a 2500, you can also program a drum or snare roll in the Grid Edit mode.

how do u program the drums to do this in grid edit

For a realistic drum roll you need several different samples of your drum - preferably some left and some right hand hits. I will sometimes assign a whole pad bank to a single drum if I am going to attempt realism....

Doesn't the 16 Levels function accomplish the same thing? It does if you're talking about different velocities or tunes. Maybe not left and rights tho.

Try it! Trust me that you'll hear the difference if you take the time....Drums programmed with 16 levels still sound "canned" (which can be good) but you can foll 95 % of the people with samples if you add enough variation..ie. mutiple samples / limited quantizing
