after setting up shelves for all my vinyl, and reorganizing it according to genre/artist. I find that the most useful records to me are my house records (i slow them down a TON and use them for hip hop. oops shouldnt have let that slip.) and school band/orchestra/choir recordings (nothing beats a highschool girl singing a perfect C, and then running it through an amp simulator and making sweet electric guitars.)
And word to ant's suggestion about christian music, those crazy religious people! Lots of wide open space and insturments.
Some of the dopest records ever are the "enviroments" series of field recordings, if you get imaginative with them they can be gold mines.
But sampling one shots or two unrelated parts of a song and splicing together two beats from each is about as far as i like to go taking peoples music, unless someone else asks me for something specific and they want to clear it =D.
