Hi,

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to load the full 128meg RAM (if I were using the 1k as a sample playback unit) from the hard drive using v2 OS? If not the full 128meg, can anyone tell me some project sizes and loading times just to get an idea?

Got the 1k to act as a sample playback unit but found it took too long to load large amounts of samples from the CF card.

Thanks for reading,

Simon

consider the sp404 as it streams directly off the card. mpc1000 does this too, but not as well.

Thanks for the reply but I am not looking for a replacement. I just want to know if the 1k is quicker to load off the hard drive rather then the CF card.

Not a chance. The CF card is a fancy memory chip; the hard drive has moving parts. I'd say loading from the hard drive is more than twice as slow!

I'm using the CF card to load up the 5-6 kits I use most at boot time, then I save everything else to the HD.

i think it's minimal because the mpc works differently from pcs in that every thing it puts down is in order, unlike a pc which can fragment files across the hard drive. accessing fragmented files will be miles faster on solid state media, compared to hard drives.
