Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

you have to connect the audio out from the v-synth to the 2500's record in. that way, you are not recording midi.

AND I QUOTE:

In the Keep and Retry window in Direct Recording
mode, if you select the pad in the Assign to pad
filed, the new “Record event” field will be displayed.

AND I QUOTE:

If you select YES in the Record event field, the recording
start timing is written as track event in the
sequence.

Timing is not midi events?

Sparq?

AKAI MPC2500 Manual wrote:The Direct Recording feature will allow you to record a signal from “ROCORD IN” while the sequence is playing back. This
makes it much easier to ensure the sample you record will match the Tempo of the sequence.
Because a sample by Direct Recording is recorded to the internal RAM memory, the recording time is dependent upon the
Internal memory capacity.

Preparing the recording
01. Connect the external device to the RECORD IN,
which is located on the MPC2500’s rear panel.
02. Press the [MODE] key and then [PAD 5] (RECORD).
03. Select the Input field, and then select the recording source.
ANALOG : The MPC2500 will record the incoming
signal from the RECORD
IN on the rear panel.
DIGITAL : The MPC2500 will record the incoming
signal from the DIGITAL
IN on the rear panel.
In Direct Recording, the MAIN OUT/CD are not
available. For this example, please select ANALOG.
04. In the Mode field, select STEREO or MONO.
05. In the Monitor field, select “ON”.
If you set the Monitor field to “ON”, you can hear
your performance from the OUTPUT of the
MPC2500.
06. Play your instrument and check the level meter you
can adjust the recording level using the [REC GAIN]
knob.

Note : When you select DIGITAL in the input field, you cannot
adjust the recording level with the [REC GAIN] knob.
The level meter moves according to the input level. If
the meter goes too far to the right , the sound will be
distorted, but if the sound level is too low, the sample
will gain a lot of noise. Set the level as high as possible
without reaching the right edge (clip)
Note : In Direct recording, The threshold / Time fields are not available.
Note : In Direct recording, the MPC2500 keeps recording to the maximum
time of the free memory and it stops the recording when you
press the [STOP] key. So setting the time fields will have no effect.

Starting the recording
07. Press [MAIN] key.
The Main page will be displayed.
08. In the Type: field, press [WINDOW] key.
The Direct Recording window will be displayed.
If you press the [F5] (Turn ON) key, the window will
be closed and the MAIN page will be displayed with
waiting for the Direct Recording.
If you press the [F4] (CANCEL), the window will be
closed and the MAIN page will be displayed.
For this example, please select [F5] (Turn ON).
09. The MAIN page is displayed and the Type : field becomes
“D.REC”.
The MPC2500 is now in stand-by mode for Direct
Recording. You can start the sequence freely in
stand-by mode for Direct Recording.
[F6] (RECORD) : The MPC2500 will start the recording.
[F5] (CANCEL) : The MPC2500 will go back to
the ordinary MAIN page.
[F2] (CLICK) : The MPC2500 will go to the
“Click/Metronome” page.
You can set the click. For more information, see the
“Click/Metronome feature “ in Chapter 3: Sequence
feature.
Note: In the Direct Recording mode, you cannot change the Sequence,
Track, or Track type. If you want to change them, press
[F5] (CANSEL) and go back to the MAIN page.
10. Press the [PLAY] or [PLAY START] key for playing
the sequence.
11. Press the [F6] (RECORD) key when you wish to start
the recording and play your performance.
The MPC2500 will start the recording and the bottom
of MAIN page will be changed as follows:
Note : In Direct Recording, the MPC2500 will keep the recording
by pressing the [F6] (STOP), whether the sequence is set to
LOOP ON or OFF.
You can stop the recording by pressing [F6] (STOP)
key. If you want to cancel the recording, press the
[F5] (CANCEL) key.
Tips : When you use Direct Recording, the foot switch is very
useful for starting/stopping the sequence, leaving your hands free.
For more information on this.
See “Foot switch” in Chapter 18: Other settings.
After finishing the recording, the Keep or Retry window
will be displayed.
12. Check the recorded sample by pressing [F4] (PLAY) key.
If you press the [F4] (PLAY) key, you can hear the
recorded sample until you release the key. If you
do not like the recording, you can delete the recording
and return to the RECORD page by pressing
the [F2] (RETRY) key. If you like the recording and
decide to keep it, proceed to the next step.
13. In the New name field, the recorded sample will have
a new name automatically.
If you wish to enter in a new name, use the [CURSOR]
keys and the DATA wheel to enter in the new name.
For more information about entering in a sample
name, see the “Setting names” section on page 10.
14. Select the Assign to pad field with the cursor and
select the Pad to which you wish to assign the sample
by hitting the Pad.
If you just wish to keep the recorded sample in the
MPC2500’s memory and not assign it to the Pad,
select OFF with the DATA wheel.

it doesn't say anything about midi for direct recording.

Right, so to put this down clearly in english:

You have a sequence recorded on the mpc2500, which you are using to trigger the V-Synth XT.

You want to monitor the V-Synth using the MPC's input thru feature, whilst playing the sequence on the MPC, and then be able to record the V-Synth's audio on the MPC as a direct recording so that it starts in time with any other sequence you have going on in the MPC.

Am i correct?

i just stated that using direct record is not midi in the since of having to use a midi cable. you stated that you connected your midi cable from the XT to the 2500.

i'm not agreeing with anyone. i'm just stating what's in the manual and from what i've already done.

again, i'm not coming down on anyone but if my words were taking the wrong way, i apologize.

partially, input thru and direct recording (on the 2500) are two different features.

So im in there and it doesnt auto trigger so i hit record in dir rec and same time play thus recording the v digitaly and i had a midi cable on em. the thing played back a half a step late! I tried waitin 4 it to loop then catch the beginning like cat and mouse......played back a half a bar late again......

So my conclusion is maybe i gotta go into the grid mode to put the sample start time in the beggining.

I just dont get it!

got me?
