Hi evertbody, is normalizing possible on the 2000xl? Is there another way to become the same effect on your samples?
thanx

nope, its not possible, you can turn the level of a sample up in the trim screen, maybe this can help you out...

just run your sample through soundforge, the sample it into the mpc if needed.

hey...with what and how would u do batch normalising with? can u do it with ACID? what do u suggest?

also....

could u just also make sure that it all sounds even on a pc/mac BEFORE you dump it to the mpc?

i mean...is it a normal thing that when dumping stuff into the mpc, the mpc will change the volumes in them?

p.s.
i thought you COULD normalize on the mpc :-/

sound forge to batch normalize on pc.
or adobe audition or any other audio batch processor.

"i thought you COULD normalize on the mpc :-/"

2kxl, no.

"i mean...is it a normal thing that when dumping stuff into the mpc, the mpc will change the volumes in them? "

mpc doesn't automatically change the volumes or anything unless you tell it to or you have some wrong with your mpc.

what do you mean "batch" normalize. is there a way to normalize a bunch of different sound files at once with sf?

what are some other batch processors that would do the job?
should i just get sound forge then?

also...is it, like, a real actual tool on sound forge?
would i just lat out all my samples/loops i'd be using live and then just batch normalize them?
is that how someone would do it?

(sorry for all the questions. lol...i just want everything to sound good :-)

sonic foundry batch converter
adobe audition

"should i just get sound forge then?:
if you want to, sup to you

thanx brotha...

but now...see...

i sequence live from my MPC2000XL.

i make all my loops and stuff for my sequences on my PC.
i mean...i have different sequences for different songs, of course, but lets say i wanted to make sure that all the loops for every song that uses sequences sound generally even, as in loudness, so that the whole show goes/sounds smooth and stuff.

what action(s) would i take to make this happen?
i keep hearing that NORMALIZING has nothing to do with volume...so then what WOULD i do to make sure all the loops/samples for each song sound pretty much even?

i'm kinda confused :-(

p.s.
thanx for the help brotha

normalizing will change the volume but it will not make each thing you normalize the same volume it just helps a bit. use a mixer to adjust volumes.

By LateArrival101 Thu Feb 09, 2006 10:38 pm
i HAVE been using a mixer...but it's not very reliable because i'm ON stage. so if i go into a new song and the sequences start, i don't want the levels to be lower/higher..i'd want it to be just as even as the song before.

also....the sound onstage totally sounds different from the outside...which in THAT case the sound guy controlls it, but then he usually ends up highering, lowering shit, and it messes everything up.

i wanna have the best, most even "source" i can have before it even GETS to the venue sound guy so that it everything can sound as smooth as i can possibly get it...ya know?

so....would i still normalize?
or do i just go by ear and lay out all my loops after another and see how they change in volume and adjust it like THAT?

what's the best/most common way to go?

thanx a lot guys,

_chris

when you normalize youre just raising the peak level to a certain preset db, if the majority of the track has a peak vomume of -5db but there is a spike at -1db and you normalize to -.01db the volume will only be raised by .08db due to the spike...

to get an overall uniform level from track to track you need to apply some mastering processes... because of your knowledge level Id day that you need to do A LOT of studying, its gonna be a while before you understand the way this shiz works so the best advice I can give you is to have patience, read up as much as you can and most importantly......experiment...
