What's the quality of the mpc2500's components?
Is it build like the mpc1000 with shitty knobs and pads?
Or is it made to last a long time without repairs?
I'm thinking of making the switch from the 1k to the 2.5k but i wanna be sure it's better build.
So far i have lost a side-panel (but that's just cause i dropped it) , have two broken buttons and a few pads that are starting to get a little unresponsive (not that i ever had a good response from them , i just use full level all the time cause you can't really accurately play soft and loud note's.).
Also , the pads are hard to bang on , are the 2.5k pads softer to hit?

The quality of the 2500 is a lot better than the 1k.
The pots are better, the sliders are much better, the pads are way better.
My friend has a 1k and it OK but the 2500 is much more pro quality. The pads are the biggest difference. The 2500 pads are predictably responsive unlike the 1k.
I haven't had one long enough to know how long it will last, nobody has, but it seems to be using high quality componets.
I just want the new OS to hit soon.

Glad to hear that it's better build than the 1K.
Seems kinda reasonable too since it costs more :D
I think i'll check around some more and see if anyone has any problems with it and try to test-drive one in a shop.

The build is ok.. sturdy enough but not a brick house by any means. CF card reader has a cheesey little button that is sure to break sooner or later. Also when you hit the pads the case rattles. I put some foam under mine to stop the noise from happening. knobs and sliders are nice and pads are way responsive. OS on the other hand is bug ridden.

The OS is not bug ridden but does have some issues like every other MPC before it with the initial OS release.

The CF card reader is practically the same on both the 2500/1000. It is kind of cheap and I am not sure if it will hold up after years. I don't use it much since I use the internal HD for saving files.

The 2500 does rattle when playing it. Its mainly due to the metal plate on the bottom of the unit. It is thin andd flimsy compared to the vintage MPCs. But this has no bearing on the operation of the unit or how long it will hold up after years.

If this OS is not bug ridden than I don't know what gives. I have never had this many problems with my 2000xl or any other piece of gear I have owned , and thats a lot of gear. Sorry J but this thing has more bugs than a porch light.

You guys noticed the rattling too huh? I thought it was just my unit. I'm glad that this is a common issue. It's never bothered me but I'm glad that 'Rome had an explanation for it. Thanks!

The MPC 2000s first OS was horrible. The XLs first OS was just slightly better.

I can still actually use the 2500 with the problems it has since I know they are there and know how to produce them.

For the sake of argument...which functions have bugs that prevent you from using the 2500?

Well it's more that it's unpredictable for me . I'll give you 2 examples of how it has cost me time. First I made 4 SEQ 's and wake up the next day pack my MPC up bring it to my studio on the other side of the city, I go to load up the SEQ,s and I get an "END of FILE " message. I save everything the proper way and then get a corrupt file. 2 hours making the SEQ + 2 hours of remaking the SEQ + 2 hours of travel time = 6 hours.

#2 I make a few songs go to track them at the studio . Turn it on and all of my samples and Seq. are gone . Were did they go? Yet another 2 hours waisted. Get my point. Stuff like this never happend with my 2000xl. I have lost a couple of SEQ. and samples but only a couple over 3yrs. of use.

As far as bugs go , the reason I upgraded was all the cool extras, That as of now still do not work and if they do it's glitchty. Hard drive issues, Loading a song and the wrong programs load ,annoying . Patch phrase crashing. The wrong file error keeps rearing it's ugly head. Those are just a few that really annoy me.

Heres the thing if you spend $2000 bucks on a peice of gear it should be pretty close to perfect. My Fantom has not givin me one single problem . The fact of the matter is this box was put out too early to catch the X-mas sales. Why you feel the need to defend Akai when they clearly don't care about us. Come on still no OS . At least release whats fixed now. I love my MPC 's but not Akai.

Out of curiosity: have you any idea why the 2500 rattles? is something loose? or is it rattling against something internal? is it the memory expansion cover? surely it's fixable?

It's the whole grey bottom plate that's vibrating. All screws that hold it are tight. If you lift it a little and put your flat hand to the bottom you can suppress it.

What i just noticed as well is that the "min" writing on the main volume knob is almost rubbed off already
If more such things happen before the warranty is over, i'm gonna have to give it back...

ok, so it's obviously got some movement in it, it must be something inside that it's hitting against, ie. cable or something that's making the noise.
