turning wma.s into mp3s

i only use hardware to produce so im not into the pc my music mixing..im clueless as how to covert my beats from wma files to mp3...i have no fancy software..how do i get this done? i need tracks for soundclick/myspace converted..can someone please help?

make sure whatever you use uses the "lame" encoder. it is by far the best.

do you mean 'wav' to mp3?

anyway, i like "CDex".
its free and uses high quality encoding (it uses the so-called lame algorithm as the other guy said.)


if it gives u a message about your CD driver just ignore it for the time being, it won't matter .

not wav. wma, windows media audio file. i was hoping windows media player might do this..

how were they converted to wma in the first place?

As in, how did the audio coming into your computer convert it to wma? Theres your answer.

i recorded these through a doodoo soundcard at a friends studio..he gave me the cd now im trying to convert..

What software program are you recording into, that makes these files into wma? That program should have a "Save as" option, which can change it to wav or mp3.

okay. it was recorded in a program called 'home studio' it think..ive tried to get him to convert them on this program or re-record but he doresnt know whats happening w/ the file types...when we're really ready to record ish ittl go into PT on the mac..

i thought it might not be a drug-out procedure to change it here on my pc...

Home Studio should have an option for "Save As".

BTW iTunes converts from wma to mp3. I had a few albums that needed converting as i used to rip them as wma files in windows media player

Next time I reccomend recording a .wav like sleepersriddle said, much less compression etc. but in this instance since you're converting it to .mp3 anyway it won't really matter. Your friend probably used windows media player to burn the files He could have just used windows explorer even to burn a data cd instead of an audio cd that only media player can read(I think thats what he did). And yes his program whatever it is whould have a Save As option with the .wav format, if not, he should think seriously about investing some money into software for his studio.
