mpc+keyboard

i b watchn beatmakn videos and i c how ****** set up the drums on da mpc and play the melody on da keyboard. i kno u hav 2 press record 2 do that but how do u set up da keyboard

With over 100 posts you should not be asking this. Know better. At a guess, you'll find the info you nned by searching for "mpc AND keyboard AND midi AND hook".

no offense guys.. i really really love this forum... i always read up and try to figure out answers for som questions even if im a newbie.... i try to search some stuff.... do some reasearch to find info on what im lookin for.... but the thing is i get 20 pages of results... and each time i press on a thread same thing comes up....

come on guys sometimes questions i admit are amazingly pathetic... but as a newbie im also having trouble with midi and mpc... im trying to do reasearch but like i said.. usuelss threads come out of ppl tellin others off...
lets start helpin eachother instead of just bashin eachother... of course i aint backin up those peeps that really dont do any reasearch and ask how to turn an mpc on lol...
we are a huge mpc familly....we gotta help eachother...

xcatctly. i hav an mpc and i use it often. it's not like i dont kno how to use it but i neva used the keyboard as a sequencer. people act like they r 2 good 2 answer questions. im pretty sure a lot of yall asked the same questions 2. why wuld u make sum1 search if u already hav the answer. if u think da question is dumb dont respond.

I don't want to start defending myself here. And I think you’ll find my initial post didn’t provoke any similar behaviour either. The way I see it, I was helping you. So don’t make this an attack on me.
I often answer questions like yours without referring people to the search function. I don’t have anything against that. This time just happened to be one of the times I tolled someone to search rather than answer.
I sometimes assume it is safe to assume that when someone asks a question like this, they have already tried searching and couldn’t find the answer. So I help then by telling them what to search for. And if that’s not the case, if they didn’t search in the first place, someone will tell them how to search, they’ll see how useful it is, and therefore we’ll eliminate these threads from occurring in the future from returning members.

I don't know if I come across that way, but I don't consciously disrespect Anyone here. There are a few guys here that I know are alot more knowledgeable than me, not just in MPCs, who I have respect for. But I don't disrespect anyone because they don't know something.

Let's keep it real...I'll start by answering this question with the proper answer:

Read the manual. Seriously.

The information on how to hookup one piece of gear to another is almost ALWAYS in there. More specific to Waves' question is that setting up a keyboard or module to sequence with IS always in that particular keyboard or module's manual.

With workstations, setting it up to be sequenced with the MPC is the same as setting it up to sequence internally. With modules, they're all different, but just look for something to do with multisetups. If you plan on sync'ing them then you'd also have to look in the workstation's manual to find out how to send or receive MIDI Clock, and then set up the MPC accordingly. The basic workflow is just sequencing the keyboard/workstation/module with the MPC.

After you setup the keyboard for multitimbral operation, and connect them via MIDI, you'd set the track on the MPC to MIDI and select the MIDI out that the keyboard is connected to. Honestly, that's information that you should learn soon after you get your machine. You don't have to understand MIDI to find out what the "drum" and "MIDI" options mean on the MPC. But anyway...

It's really, really simple. The only thing is setting up your keyboard/module to receive on multiple channels. Good Luck!
