MPC 2000 SCSI 250meg ZIP problem

I got my iomega zip250 drive hooked up to the SCSI out on my MPC2000 and I have a 250 meg disk in. I turn on my MPC and goto the disk screen. Then I push format and under Device: Floppy I can scroll to F-disk or scroll up and it says Wait.......
For a long time. Also happens on the Load screen.
Any ideas what this could be? I'm thinking it's the cord, but if anyone knows something I'm doing wrong, any help is appreciated.

yeah it wont format 250 disks for some reason,but you can use 100 disks and it works just fine.

So the 'waiting.......' message should go away if I use the smaller 100mb disks? I'll go buy one and try that tomorrow.

My plan is to take a bunch of drums I have already sampled off my computer hard drive and put them on the zip disk then use them with the MPC. How would I go about doing this? Is formatting an issue? My files are in .wav form.

Sounds like a SCSI ID error. I dont use SCSI like dat cauze it really can be dat word dat starts wit a B and endz wit a H. But I have a feelin its da ID error.

Well no error comes up, the MPC never even reaches the unit, I think it's either the cord or the SCSi card because the zip drive seems to be functioning. Any other thoughts on this wait...... problem?
It says wait....... and just sits there for days.

Okay, so I'm down to 4 days on my 30 day opportunity to return my MPC2000, unless I get some more info on this SCSI problem it looks like that's what I'm gonna have to do

My problem: In the Load window, and in the Format windown, under device I can't even see 'SCSI', when I turn the knob to where I assume it should say SCSI it says 'wait.......' and stays like that.

Any help is greatly greatly appreciated, as I am running out of time on my investment!!

Can it find the floppy? If so, your SCSI fuse/chip thingy may be shot.

Is the zip drive terminated? The TERM switch on the back should be set to ON. Also, the SCSI ID needs to be 5.

^ Yes it can find the floppy and another device called F-disk in the Disk window under format. I loaded OS 1.72 off a floppy.
My zip drive doesnt appear to have the switch you speak of. It's an iomega zip250. There's a plug for the power on the right, and two SCSI ports on the back, one male which says zip above it, and one female which has a little picture of a printer above it(I assume this is for SCSI 'chaining?')

I phoned the store I bought it at, turns out they have a 30 day return policy, but also a 3 month warrenty on all used equipment, so if it turns out the SCSI is fried, they have to replace it for free.
On a side note the guy on the phone told me you can't use zip drives with the MPC2000? I was kinda like wtf, but what if he's right? I'm scared.

Nah thats BS. Of course you can use zips with the 2000.
you need to find a zip drive 100 or 250 with terminate and id switches on the back. Yours doesnt have them right?

That's right it does not.
But if I have a floppy in and I goto the disk screen and goto format and scroll up under device it just freezesm I've never seen the letters SCSI on my screen. I want to try an internal IDE/ATAPI zip drive or cf card reader. I've read some stuff about it I think it will work. I'm going to have the tech guy look at it anyway.

It's mos def the wrong zip drive, but I think it should at least search for SCSI and say NO DEVICE. Your SCSI "fuse" is prolly shot. I think you can still upgrade with the ATAPI Card reader if it is, but I'm not 100% sure.

So the music store called me back today. The technician looked at it and apparently this problem is NOT FIXABLE?!?
All I can say is wtf, we know the problem is the SCSI ?fuse? or the entire SCSI card, and I know the technician guy knows this because I made the guy at the counter type out a nice long explaination of the problem, but apparently they phoned Akai and this cannot be solved? I have so much trouble believing this.

QUESTION: Can't the whole SCSI card be replaced? Why can't this solve the problem?

Also, I got an internal IDE Zip drive off ebay, I can install it to use for my main storage.

QUESTION #2: What is the point of the SCSI card other than the SCSI output to an external zip?

Here's what I think is going on:
I think the price the store paid whoever brought it in, plus the cost of parts and labour will work out to more than what I payed(I bought it during a blow out sale) they want to refund my money, fix the unit, then try to sell it again at normal price. The guy on the phone seemed really eager for me to get a full refund.
Can anyone tell me more about the SCSI card's uses? Other than plugging in an external drive what are it's main purposes. The unit seemed to work fine except for not being able to read the SCSI.
