I have an old Boss DR-5. I'd like to send song data to my 2000XL but have been unable to do so. Device ID #'s, who be the slave, who be the master, it's pretty overwhelming. Anyone going through, or been through the same thing?

mpc sequencing master

use the dr5 as a sound module.

play the dr5 sounds via the mpc pads..

make the mpc track type midi..

Thank you. I think now it's simply a matter of assigning the notes. I imagine this is easier with a MIDI keyboard, but again, thank you very much!

dr5 is my fave drum machine. I don't have one but I've always suggested it to people and when they got it I'd show them what's up with it. None of those friends have ever told me it wasn't worth it.

It's a good machine.

as for song data, I don't think you can simpley SEND the whole song to the mpc to play out. it will just be a data dump for storage.

if you make a song on the dr-5 you can midi the mpc, make mpc the sequencing master, play the mpc and the dr-5 song will follow along AND you can have the dr5 samples trigger from the mpc pads.. you can then add mpc internal samples AND dr5 samples from the mpc pads.. but make sure the track type is midi when you wanna trigger sounds from dr5..

I've done this before but it's been like 5 years time so I'm trying HARD to remember..............

I only get to the lab on Sundays right now, but when I go this week I'll check it out and let you know what I find. Adding MPC internal samples would be a nice bonus, almost like Barry Bondsing your DR-5 with the XL. I'll let you know how it works.

I already know how it works cause I've done it, lol

same sequence, different tracks. midi type for dr5 sounds and drum type for 2kxl sounds. all in the same sequence working together. that's part of what midi is about.
