Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By THE CHEF Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:43 am
Does anyone here own a Yamaha Dxj PSRD-1 Keyboard. I am trying to sync it with my mpc 2000 xl. I have my midi ins and out all correct. I have my keyboard turned to local off. I have the MPC set to midi clock. When I try to record a sound to my MPC it says" waiting for midi play" So I play a pattern from the keyboard and the MPC begins to count bars. Problem is I cant playback what I have just recorded, neither can i play any sounds or patterns from the MPC like drums, snares, hats. The keyboard is controlling everything. I want to play my keyboard while a sequence from the MPC is playing. Forgive me if this topic has been discussed. I just need some extra details.

Thanks Much, Chef

Yeah man you have a problem similar to mine. I want to record my keyboard to mpc but i need to get midi cables. I already got it hooked to the computer via usb.

Are you listening to the keyboard through it's built-in speakers?

The thing with you MPC not playing any sounds, does this only happen after you try recording midi data from the Yamaha? Like everything is normal on the MPC, then after you record a midi track, you can't hear any sound, but the sequence still plays (counts through the bars)?

It sounds like the keyboard is generating the Midi Clock and not the Mpc. IMHO you should be using the MPC as the master clock. Make sure that sync in is set to internal and the sync out to your keyboard is set to beat clock. As a matter of fact unless your using the clock from the MPC to control the timing of a sequence or LFOs on the Keyboard then you don't need to set any sync.

I think Kraster might've hit the nail on the head with that first sentence right there.

Thats exactly whats happening guys. The keyboard is generating midi clock and it is the master. I will check my settings like Kraster suggested and see what happens. Man this can be hella frustrating but I think I'm close to making it work. I will let you all know what I find out. Thanks! "Chef"

Yo guys I have a few more questions. I finally got the MPC syncing up with my keyboard but the sounds from the keyboard are spread across my MPC. There is a sound on each pad. I dont want the keyboard sounds on each pad until I'm ready to assign them to a pad. I only want to play the keyboard sounds over drum patterns on the MPC. Thanks"Chef"
