MPC 1000 or MPC2000 xl

Hi Everybody.
As you can see I'm new to this forum, but I already digged it a lil. Especially Sparqs Video Tutorials for the MPC 1000. Well I'm new to the hardware production type of thing, although I'm into producing Beats like 10 years now. Started with an Commodore AMIGA, then switched to Fruity Loop when i First got a PC in 99 then ending up with Reason and ReCyle which I'm pretty comfortable with.
But since I really want to get some Hardware now, to get to the next Level, I'm quite unsure, which MPC is the right one for me. I would like to use the machine together with Reason mainly and Cubase for mixing and stuff like that i guess.
So to stick to the Point, I got a few questions concerning mainly the Models 1000, 2000xl and maybe the 2500. I got some questions which I couldn't figure out via search function.

1) Questions concerning MPC 1000 / 2000xl issues

- I know already that u can connect an Internal 2.5" HD and which Models are compatible BUT: Since this mpc has an USB connecter i would like to know if it is also possible to connect it to an external USB HD? And if so, would it be possible to connect the machine via an USB Hub to the external HD and a PC at the sime time? Or is that an obnoxious Idea anyway?
On The mpc 2000 you have to use an external SCSI HD, right?

- What do you people think about the mpc 1000 and 2000xl in comparison?
See, Imma hiphop cat and all my favorite producers were using the 2000xl to produce classic joints. Or is it just a Matter of time until someone will switch to the 1000, because its more advanced when it comes to features and specs with the OS 2? Or is the 2000xl in fact the better machine to programm on? what i really like more about the 2000 is the design in terms of usage... pads right and the big wheel left... but dunno if this is an advantage in handiness or not due to the fact i havent worked with none of em yet.

- Is there a Time Stretching implemented in mpc2000 xl or just slicing?

- This question is about file-compatibilty. I've read that the 1000 is incompatible with the other mpc and emu formats e.g.. Do you think this is a big setback if u dont have any old mpc files?

- Is there any differences in terms of the Effects-Quality between the EB 16 board of the 2000 and the build in ones from the 1000?

2) Question about MPC 2500
- Do you think its necessary to have an MPC 2500 for hiphop beats? I dont see having real time effects and qlink fanciness when im not performing live... or am i wrong?


Last question: If you would have the choice...lets say if both had the same pricing, which one would u take, the 2000xl or the 1000?

Last words from me: For me the 2000xl looks somehow outdated in terms of technical aspects. But I pretty much like the clean design of it. But on the other hand I've seen all the great features of the mpc 1000 - thx 2 sparq again - and it seems user friendly to me, Plus The Display is not so small...

Man i feel sorry for you, you spent all that time typing this out and no doubt it will get locked!

These threads come up a lot so the mods tend to lock them as soon as they see them.

But in short,

External HD cant be connected as the MPC is a USB slave only, not a master. So that's a no to connecting to the PC and HD at the same time.

If you haven't worked with either then the layout will be of little concern as you'll just get used to which ever you buy.

The 2000xl has much better build but is older, slower, has less ram and cannot be easily interfaced with a computer easily. It's a classic machine though, great workflow, niocer feel

1000 as mentioned above really. Has poorer pads, feels a bit lightweight. Is more portable, has the option of more RAM and internal HD, USB connectivity. No tilt screen is annoying

Yes both have time stretch

With no old MPC files, compatability is not a major issue, if an issue at all.

Not sure about effects quality but as you have cubase, you probably have better effects in the PC

2500, almost all the goodness of the XL with the extra features of the 1000, plus more. Best bet in my opinion if you have the cash. Plus it will be getting more updates than the XL so new stuff will be added to the OS. Still slightly buggy but these issues wil be resolved.

I've got the 2500, wouldn't look back. I hear of a number of people upgrading from the XL to the 2500, but never going from 2500 to XL.

If you can save that little bit more, go 2500. You might even want to see how much it would cost to import one from the UK www.dv247.com sells the 2500 for £800, plus your shipping

This is all based on my own opinions and research so best bet is for you to dig around a while longer and try them out if possible
