MPC1000 Hard Drive Recommendations

man ive tried the seagate 60gb and the toshiba 4026 gax and nothing could it be the mp or the adaptor. has any one had any problems you heard off?

ok, the toshiba i know for a fact works.

what are you doing/seeing for you to conclude that the drive does not work?

its not reading any drive i put in. i try to format turn the data wheel nothing i just decided to send it back to akai since i have a 12 month warranty on it!

I got the HDM10 kit yesterday and was able to install it in about 20 minutes.

Hard drive is:

IBM Travelstar 20G ATA 4200rpm 9.5mm out of a dead Micron laptop


Now watch me blow some walls out!

can you stilll use the cardreader when you've put a harddrive inside a 1000??

This HD-thing makes me wanna buy a 1000... i like the fact that i dont have to touch a computer ever. And it's pretty cheap, you get a lot of gigs for not a lot of $$

yes, you can still use the card reader and the hard drive. the hard drive doesn't replace anything... it adds to it.

that makes me wanna get a 1000. I like the thought of just sampling a whole shitload of records into the mpc, and whenever you feel like it you can bring it up and flip it. Wow... shit.

i got my hdm kit and toshiba mk4026gax 40gb ystrday ... have spnt the past 2 days dwnloading sounds to and still not finishd ..this thing is f-n awesome

well it seems that my mpc had an internal problem. and it wasnt the hard drives i tryed.so i sent it back to akai and they repaired it. now i can finally get to work. i'd like to thank everyone on mpc forums for trying to help me out and give me advise on all my problems and questions.thanks. one!!!!

I just installed a Seagate drive that a couple of guys here mentioned - works great ! So thanks to those guys for sharing and Sparq for kicking this off.

Seagate Momentus 2.5" 60 GB - ST960812A-RK

I picked this up from Best Buy. If you're looking for one of these, it doesn't actually say Momentus on the front of the packaging - so you won't see that name when scanning the shelves.

It just says "60 GB Notebook Internal Hard Drive" on the front of the box. There is a label on the bottom of the packaging with UPC and the name/model as above.

I just installed the Toshiba MK1032GAX 100GB 5400RPM 16MB cache and it works great, very quiet and quick loading.

So go and buy it nooooooow !

just ordered the kit and a 30gb Toshiba 4600rpm 2mb cache. I'll let yall know next week how it performs.

I had a IOMEGA USB 60 Gb 'slim' drive in aliminium casing which I used to backup all my music files. I opened the casing and dismounted the HD, and mounted it in the MPC1000. It was immediately recognized and it loads save apparently without issues.

The reference printed on the HD is
TOSHIBA: Model N° IC25N060ATMR04-0 - 4200 RPM

i got a question..
now does the hard drive for the mpc 1000 have to be internal?.... or can it be external too?
and if it can be what external hard drives are recommended

i had to ask cuz i wasnt tooo clear on it thnx

if you're talking about using the usb port, then no it's not possible.

however, you could make a slot-shaped hole in the front panel, and fabricate a long 44-pin ata cable to go through the hole, from the hard drive to the hdm-10 kit inside. this, however, is not recommended!
