I dont have a XL wheel to compare in hand, but from what I remember before I sold mine I think it would be too big

the 2500s wheel seems a little smaller

No, it can't. I took a pic of the 2500 wheel when I opened it to change the pads. As you can see it's more a ring, as opposed to the simple potentiometer used in the 2000XL.

what mechanism actually makes the clicking noise

do u think it can be broken of or removed or filed down and the wheel still work?

Damn!!! Some of you are making WAY too big an issue of this clicking. Get over it!!! You're gonna end up ruining your shyt then we'll all have to put up with your whining afterward. Just leave it alone. Is it really THAT annoying?

man I had a dream about this frickin wheel last night - you just reminded me.

I think it's a kind of microswitch in the ring with a defined clicking noise...just like on PC keyboards, there are some that click more or less, and some that don't. Akai obviously chose one that gives an audible click. Won't be an easy fix to replace it though, I definitely wouldn't risk a 2000$ machine for that.

I don't mind the clicking either, it actually feels more reliable to me, and I don't have to fear that it develops the contact problems the 2000XL wheel is notorious for. But I'm sure there would have been quieter choices with the same mechanical feel.

I didn't say that you would whine to me... go ahead, fvck your shyt up, I aint your parent. What I meant was that you could possiby ruin your MPC and then start askin' ways to fix it here on the forums. You wouldn't be whining to only me, there are more people than myself readin' these forums. And no, I don't have an answer as to fix the clicking, my comment was me expressing my views on the topic though. Ask a question, get an answer. Thats how it works... even if you don't always get the answer you want

Bite it dude. If there is a way to "fix" it, I'm sure you or someone else will figure it out. Instead of asking if it can be "fixed", why not try "fixing" it yourself? That way we can all avoid having to try to answer your hypothetical questions. And I comprehend just fine aiight?

Off with the clicking!!!.....that click is **** annoying now that you bring it to my attention .....but i use headphones so it not that bad....i cant afford monitors....but for people with monitors i belive it should'nt be annoiying due to more heavy sound...

It's really not that annoying. The earphone solution was one I was going to suggest earlier. If you ask me, I think it's just fine. I like the fact that it feels "locked" in place for the most part. But, this is my first MPC so... But my brother has the XL and I like the feel of the 2500's wheel better. Clicks and all! Just my opinion.
