transition from XL to 2500

For those of you who transitioned from an MPC 2000XL to an MPC 2500, what exactly does converting your files consist of? For instance, each of my beats, I have seperate folder with an .ALL file and a .APS file........ i hear it could be tedious to change them to the 2500 format? is this true, how long will is usually take? Also, how exactly is it done?

upgrade your 2500 O.S. to 1.1 first, then they will load as they would have in your 2000xl give or take a few minor settings like filter and note on to name a few. One other thing is, if your sample names are to long in the 2000xl, your 2500 will not recognize them and will not send them to their right pads,but it will rename them something shorter and load them into the memory so you will have to go through pad by pad and reasign each sample with its new shortened name. I know that sounds weird and hard to do exactly the same way it was when you programmed it in your 2000xl, but the program still has the original long name when you hit the pad so all you would have to do is change it to the shortened name and thats it.

I just won the MPC 2500 on eBay, and I plan to sell my MCD now. Or will I need it to somehow help me make the transition from one unit to the other?

In other words, as long as I have all my beats and samples on a compact flash card, will it be safe to sell my MPC2000XL-MCD without having to worry about converting files, renaming, etc.?

I have been doing the exact same thing..transition took 2days to transfer all the files...What I did was make all my xl sounds 8 letters or less, and save them as .wav on a blank disk..Then started transfering them to the laptop, and making the same program with Bluebox using the drag and drop..Pain in the A** and a lot of patience is what it took!

Mos def...Like lamp said do the transition before you sell! Unless you have a friends that you can use when needed. Plus it is helping me alot at the minute having both machines together..to check what functions are where, etc.....

Yes, convert all files before you sell. I just bought a 2000xl again because I failed to transfer all files properly. ( Got a 2000xl studio plus for 575.00 not too shabby eh? ) Anyway I was doing transfers to an mpc 3000 and 1000 . What you should do is save your progams individually , then save your sequences as seperate midi sequences , look at all of your songs and write down the order and # of reps on paper. Load your programs in your new mpc and then load your sequences individually . Then save all of your progams and .all files on your new mpc onto the flash card and work from therer. This is pretty much a guide for any cross mpc transfering. I do this with a 2000xl to 3000 to 1000. I would imagine the 2500 would be similar but it is nice to have all of your files in a universal format. Also I use MPC editor for backwards transfer to the 3000.

Does the 2500 read .ALL & .APS files from an XL?

I'm not familiar with the XL but the release notes says it reads .All files now and recognises mixer settings in .aps format

You will need to upgrade to the latest OS though

Does this apply to mpc 2000 .aps and .all files as well?
