Whus up y'all ? I know this topic has been asked and answered before.. lemme start by sayin: I checked the FAQ at the top of this forum and found the answer to my question, but I have one more question that wasn't covered.

I've re-assigned my pads in chromatic order, so I can trigger my external rack modules from the MPC3000. I set the sound to midi channel 1A, leave the track set to DRUM. When I hit pad A1 (note 35), I can hear the sounds from the sound module, BUT, I also hear the kick drum that's assigned to pad A1. What do I need to do in order to trigger just the sound modules sounds, and NOT the MPC3K's sound ? I'll keep searchin, but in the meantime, if any of you know, please get back at me.

turn it to midi, possibly doing this on an empty track

Tried that before I posted my question, Deta!L. When I change it to MIDI, I can't hear anything.. BTW, I'm running OS 3.16

did you try turning local off on the MPC? Midi>2

Yup.. When local control is turned off, I can hear the sound module's sounds, but no MPC sounds. When I used to use the MPC2000XL, this was never an issue. I could change from DRUM to MIDI, select let's say MIDI 3B, then I could use the MPC's pads to play the MIDI sounds, without hearing the MPC sounds.... is this even possible on the 3k or is it specific to the 2000XL ?

Doesn't make a deal which OS your running.

This behaviour has been present on MPC60 and MPC3000 machines in many previous OS versions.

If a track is set to DRUM or MIDI and LOCAL is On... and you press a drum pad; then regardless of the MIDI port you're routed to ... you will hear ... a DRUM ( or what ever sample is assigned from the MPC's sound generator ) and also, what ever device is being accessed over MIDI via the PORT/CHAN settings in the MAIN SCREEN.

If the track is set to MIDI then incoming MIDI events received at the MIDI IN ports will be routed over MIDI to the connected device via the track PORT/CHAN settings on the MAIN SCREEN. You will not hear a DRUM in this instance.

The original intention of this was that DRUM events for DRUM TRACKS would be entered by the PADS and MIDI events for MIDI tracks would be entered via the MIDI ports.

Page 35 of the user manual makes a point about this.

NOTE REPEAT functions are similarly handled where routing and triggering is concerned.

Hope this helps.

Rohan.

I remember Deta!L posted once about assigning pads in banks C & D with no internal drum sounds to the S950 as a simple workaround. Cool for phrase sampling but if your'e trying to use a sound module you might consider just picking up a cheap midi keyboard to access your modules.

So, again, it looks as though this is a feature that was/is specific to the MPC2000XL. As I'd stated previously, this is possible on the MP2kxl, cuz I used to do it all the time. No big deal. Thanks for all the feedback though, I appreciate it. BTW, Rohan, I wasn't tryin to lay blame on 3.16

peace,

:-) No blame was detected.

You have a MIDI keyboard ... you have a work around.

Peace ...

PS: How you doing with the card reader testing ?

PS: How you doing with the card reader testing ?

Well, I think I have one of the two external units workin... but the PCMCIA card I was using to test, is an old 16mb card from an old Cisco router. I think this card has seen the end of it's days, so I'm pickin up a 512mb CF card to use with the PCMCIA -> CF adapter that was included with one of the external units. Keep ya fingers crossed, I may be on to somethin ... I'll email you my results before posting.

lets say you got your drums rockin from the 3000 on track 1 ...do you boom bap one two... but before you switch to track two..you have to hit .. i think its midi 2 so you can turn the local drums off...

then go to track two.... and lets just say you have a mo phatt... and you want to play it from the 3000 you should be set to drums ... then you wont hear the drums from track one... i had the same problem but i figured it out good luck...hopefully i typed the right 5hit in im not in front of my 5hit so hit me up if you need more help ....

So are you sayin that I can turn local control off on each track that I wanna play the sound module sounds on, then turn local control back on for the tracks that I wanna have the MPC's sounds on ? I thought about that before I posted, but I thought that turnin local control back on for the drum tracks, would also turn it back on for the MIDI tracks. If that's not the case, then your answer is the workaround I was lookin for. I'll try it out tonight and get back. Thanks RKSOCOM, and everyone else who replied.

Cool ... in general, 16 mb cards are not handled too well by ANY of the card readers I have tested.

The CISCO origins of the card you've been trying indicate that it might have been part of a crypto component for a certain IOS or some thing similar.

Looking forward to receiving those results.

You know what Rohan ? Somethin just dawned on me, in May of 2005, I installed what appeared, and still appears, to be a PCD-15 internal reader in my MPC3k. You actually helped me with modifying the power leads to make it work with the 3k. Nonetheless, I couldn't get it to recognize the reader, but here's the catch, I was using the SAME 16mb Cisco PCMCIA card!! So, I'm going to put all of my previous tests results to the side, and begin testing again starting with the internal reader, along with a PCMCIA to CF adapter and a 128mb CF card. I'll move on to testing the external unit shortly after that. I'm pickin up a couple of CF cards tomorrow, but it won't be until this Saturday that I'll be able to test. I'll send you the results of my tests, hopefully by Sunday night. BTW - parles' vous' Cisco IOS ?

Oh yeah ... I remember that. On the "other list" I think from memory.

The PCD-15 I had was a gift from another member on this list and in turn was gifted to another friend in need.

That unit is now residing in a 2000XL where it has performed without issue.

Worked ok on my MPC3000 also when mounted in an external case.

Never tried to wire it internally.

Some of the earlier CF media types have incorrect CIS structures present and identify incorrectly to card readers like the Microtech models which are for the most part ... Dum.

Ever re-configured, serviced or re-implimented certain old Cisco Catalyst type Routers ?

If you have then you'll have dealt with Cisco firmware/software known as IOS ...

Certain CISCO routers 1841, 2691, 2800, 3700 and Cisco 3800 used CF media to store various boot strap and config stuff.

Boring I know.

Sorry to bring it up.

Rohan.
