Don't know, but as I said there were 2 models and 2 prices.
Might be mounting like the 8-out for the rack and the 8-out for the MPC.

:shock: ROM now adds RAM!?!?! :shock: WTF!?!?!? That makes NO sense. But even so, it's still a waste of money. Adding another 8MB isn't worth $200, IMO. 32MB is PLENTY, but that's another thread (or actually, like 50 other threads).

The key is how that 8 meg works with the MPC.
It works totally different from what you may think, but that's why it has it's advantages.
You can get an idea of it from the xl manual, should be enough to give you an idea of how it works.

The ROM is not Read-Only! It's really more like Flash RAM which means that even when the MPC is powered of the contents of this memory stays intact! Though this Flash RAM is not directly accessable the only thing you load is the Flash RAM address (which is very small) into Main RAM. Loading from the Flash RAM is VERY fast!

Good uses for this RAM is to keep frequently used rograms/seqeunces loaded on the MPC, and have them quickly and easily accessable.

Also, someone stated that you could instal 2 of these, but I believe that you can only instal 1 for a total of 40 Megs RAM.

THESE ARE NOT FOR THE 2000XL!!!!!!!!!! The part # is wrong. The ones for the XL do not end with M. I just got mine and it was wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!
